Chapter 1: Slenderman Part 1
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen! It is a beautiful 55 degrees out, unusual for the first day of November. I hope everyone's Halloween went-!"
Before the annoying man on the alarm clock could finish, I slammed my fist down on it, shutting it off. "Shut up…." I grumbled and sighed groggily, slightly lifting my head up from my pillow. I was still a little dazed from last night's Halloween party, which was also my birthday party.
I groaned and dragged my butt out of bed; my long dyed dark blue hair flowed down my back and over my face and shoulders. It went over my dark blue eyes and I yawned as my feet softly pattered across the carpet towards the bathroom.
I switched the light on and glanced at myself in the mirror. My overly pale skin glowed in the light of the room, my several piercings glinting in my reflection. The scars on my cheeks were faint, but still visible.
I stripped off my pajamas and took a 15-minute shower. I was drying my hair when my cell phone went off. I sighed. "Oh boy, this won't be good..." I muttered and walked into my bedroom, grabbing my cell phone and answering it. "This is Blair."
"Heya Blair." A female voice with a French accent said on the other end.
"Hey Beth, what's up?"
"Nothing much, the force needs ya to come in."
I sighed. "I'll be there in 30 minutes." I said and hung up. Whenever I was called into the Grim Police Force, it usually wasn't good, which meant something...paranormal had happened. I dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans, with a one-sleeved red shirt, boots and I always, usually wear several necklaces and bracelets.
I rubbed a hand over my eyes and sighed. "This is gonna be a long day..."
I arrived at the police station five minutes later and headed inside, showing guards my ID. Other officers greeted me as I walked through the building to where Beth's cubicle was. "Hey Beth."
Bethany 'Beth' Browser was an 28-year old French woman who moved to America when she was young. She had golden-brown eyes and hair of the same color, curly and always very shiny. She was a detective on the force and a very good one.
"Hey Blair. How are you?"
"Fine, was up late again last night."
"How late?"
"Eh, around 4. Being half-demon has its advantages. I don't require much sleep."
"Yeah well, you're also part human and medium. Doesn't mean you can't go without sleep." she commented and then cleared her throat. "Okay, so it looks like we've got an interesting case for you."
"What's the problem?" I asked as she handed me the case folder and we walked to where the questioning was held at.
"28-year old man named Ricardo Travela. He said he saw his 5-year old daughter, Jessica, get kidnapped." Beth replied as we arrived at the questioning room. Royce, a 30-year old detective and Beth's partner, was already in there.
"Kidnapped by who?" I asked, looking up at Beth and saw the look on her face.
"Something...not human." she replied and that's when Royce came out.
"Hey girls." he spoke, running his hand through his short, blonde hair. "Sorry we had to call you in Blair. This is definitely something paranormal."
I sighed through my nose. "Alright, send me in."
I was sent in and I sat down from across Mr. Travela. "Mr. Travela, my name is Blair Armoire. I'm a paranormal investigator on the force. Now, can you tell me what happened?"
"It was...just a normal night." Travela began. His voice sounded broken. "Jessica and I...we were...outside, in the back yard. I had gone inside to get the camera and when I came back out, she was gone...but...I found her..."
"And then what happened?" I asked, jotting down some notes.
"She was...being held by something...by him...no...not a he...an it." Travela mumbled, gripping the edge of the silver table.
"Can you describe what you saw?" I questioned.
"It was tall...and it...wore a black suit. It's hands...were larger than mine...and.." Travela's face became pale and he started to cry. "It...it had...no face. It had no face! There was nothing there! It...just stared at me! That thing! It took my Jessica!"
He began to sob and now I realized what he was talking about. I had read about it years ago and it was interesting. "Alright, Mr. Travela, listen to me very carefully." he looked up at me with teary eyes. "I am going to find your daughter. Alright?"
He gave a small, single nod and I left.
"So?" Royce questioned.
"We have a problem. A big problem."
...
"So...what's...this thing called?"
I glanced up at Beth. "He's called the Slenderman. Other names given are the Operator, the Tall Man, Thin Man, names like that. He's described as a very tall man wearing a black suit, usually with a white undershirt and either a black or red tie. He appears very thin and is able to stretch his limbs and torso to inhuman lengths in order to induce fear and ensnare his prey. He mostly preys on children, usually becoming friends with them before they vanish into thin air. He will also stalk humans and they are seemed to disappear also. He has abilities such as teleportation, camouflage, mind control and then you have the Sickness."
"The Sickness?" Beth questioned and sat down beside me.
"The Sickness is a thing where if you are stalked by him or you encounter him, you get things like coughing, fever, nose bleeds, memory loss, aches and pains."
"But why?"
I shrugged. "Nobody knows. You know the phrase 'nothing to fear but fear itself'?"
She nodded.
"The Slenderman is the embodiment of human fear." I finished. "He is unknown."
"Well..." Beth thought deeply for a moment before continuing. "What would you do if you encountered him? You'd get the Sickness."
"I'm half demon Beth. I can't get sick." I spoke. "And if the Slenderman is a demon, then perhaps we can negociate."
"You're crazy Blair." Beth snorted.
"Yeah I know." I mumbled and shut down my computer. "I'm going home so I can do some more research on him. I'll see you later."
"See you Blair."
I gathered up what I needed for tonight and grabbed my coat, heading out of the station. It was still early, around noon, so I decided to head over to the local diner. I ordered a sandwich while I did research on Slenderman. I've heard of him before, but I've never actually considered looking him up until now.
"Hmm...this case may actually be interesting..." I mused to myself.
After lunch, I walked out of the diner, a thin straw hanging from my lips. I found straws to chew on better than my lips or fingernails. I exhaled, seeing my breath in the air. I glanced around and saw a thick fog rolling in from over to my right, about 300 to 400 feet away from me.
I quirked a blue eyebrow. Since my eye sight was sharper than a normal human, I could see more clearly in the fog. However, I saw the dark silhouette of a figure, a tall figure in the fog. I couldn't quite make out any features, but I could see the figure was wearing dark, if not, black clothing.
The straw hung lip from between my lips as the figure and I competed in a staring contest, to see who would break first. All of a sudden, I saw what looked like a long arm separate from the figure's body. The arm rose slightly and enough, then it made a motion as if it was waving at me.
My dark blue orbs blinked and I raised my own hand, waving also. The figure's arm dropped to it's side and to my surprise, the figure faded within the fog. I blinked again and looked away from the fog. "That was strange..."
...
By the time 9 o'clock came around, I had been through enough research of the Slenderman that I felt like an expert on him. The only questions I had were about how long he had been on earth, if he was a demon or something else. I sighed softly and then reached over, grabbing my phone and dialing my mother's number.
The line rung for a few moments and then I heard her voice. "Hello?"
"Hey mom, it's me." I replied, clicking on a link that led me to the Operator symbol.
"Oh! Hey sweetie! I didn't expect you to call so early in the week. You sound bothered, what's wrong?" my mother asks. My mother was a kind and helpful woman, but could also be stern. She is a medium and can see supernatural creatures, some would be ghosts and demons. Trust me, she fell in love with a demon.
"I got a new case this morning. It's...quite strange. Have you ever heard about the Slenderman?"
"Hmmm, as a matter of fact, I have. The tall, faceless one that wears a suit?"
"Yeah."
"Well, who came to you with the case about him?"
"A man claimed he saw a tall man wearing a black suit kidnap his daughter." I replied. "They say technology screws up when he's around."
"I only know some about this...Slenderman. I only know that he's dangerous."
I sighed and rubbed my forehead tenderly. "Yeah...I guess I'll find out soon. Listen, I gotta go. I'll probably be up all night."
"Alright sweetie. Call me if you need anything, I mean it Blair."
"I know mum."
"I love you."
"I love you too mom." I said and then hung up, staring at my screen. "Dad...I wish you were here..."
