"No!" I screech, clawing at the stone barriers that make up my cage. "No!"

The guard above me doesn't seem to hear me- or he just doesn't care- for he walks up to the five sturdy ropes binding the cage in place. He looks at the ropes for a moment before sending a look at his fellow guards.

"Cut them."

One of them steps forwards, unsheathes his sword, and starts sawing.

"Stop!" I scream again. My eyes well up with tears. "Stop! Please! Stop!"

The man flinches but continues on. Finally, one rope snaps and the cage lurches a bit. I stumble but regain myself a moment later. The guard continues on to the second rope.

I jump up, fruitlessly trying to reach past the bars that only make up the top of the cage. I only succeed in letting my red hair fly into my face.

The second rope snaps.

Finally the tears that were gathering themselves up flows down my cheeks. My efforts hardly stop there, however. I jump up again and finally grab the bars. I've lost a lot of strength the last few weeks, however, and it shows. I fall back down, landing straight on my bum.

The third rope snaps.

I let out a wordless cry, pounding on the wall in front of me with two fists. I don't make plans to stop until they do.

The fourth rope snaps.

"Stop," the man in charge says. My pounding stops for one second and I look up, hopeful. The man leans over so I can see his face through the bars-

And then he spits through them. I scramble out of the way just in time for it to land right beside my feet. I look at it as I hear the sawing start-up again. I remain that way until I hear it.

The fifth rope snaps.

I look up finally as the people above me and F.L.M. get rapidly smaller. The wind is rushing past my ears, a nearly deafening sound. I can't seem to hear it, though, over a much louder sound.

As the red sea fills my cage, I figure out it's my own screaming.

Full summary: Lucy, a fourteen year old girl, lives above futuristic Earth. Yes, above. The world was flooded before she was born. However, the scientists saw it coming and built a machine to house humans for the rest of their lives.

The plan backfired.

A king took over. He was not a kind ruler. In fact, if you disobeyed even the smallest laws, he threw you into the sea (just called Sea). You would either drown or get eaten by the monsters living in the waters. Soon, Lucy finds herself blamed for a crime and sentenced to be thrown into the waters. Shall she take it? Or escape?
