Dark shapes drifting around. Fear grips me. I am alone as i sink, deeper, deeper into the water. The only company,i have are the merpeople. Swimming around, probly laughing. Thinking to themselves, look, another mortal, watch as she drowns! I'm sure of it. Fear and despair fade into regret. What did i do with my life? Not enough. A memory flashes, a conversation. With the ambassador, as she calls her self, the guardian of this lake. The same one i fell into.
"Has anyone ever been down there?"i asked, gesturing at the waters below the dock. The old woman's eyes crinkle as she smiles.
"No human, but it is said it is beutifal."she responds.
The words make me smile, as i fall. I cannot hold my breath any longer. Perhaps i should let go, fade into the waters. At least i will die in peace. A rush of calmness engulfs me, as i close my eyes into blackness...
Then a Jolt, and i open my eyes. I lay on the dock, scaly hands retreating into the water. The ambassador stares at me, looking relived. The depths have spared me, at least...for now.
