In Stronger Winds

IN STRONGER WINDS

A golden budding tulip

Sways lazily in gentle winds

Anchored by a careless grip

Unprepared for the gale that begins

Torn away from meadow home

In a new place, in new silt

A browning tulip droops alone

Scared to start anew, and so for fear it wilts
