So this is the rewrite of Rushioma Academy, I found that the original had flaws, and that Misako was, in my opinion and many others, a Mary-Sue. So I will try, REALLY, really hard to improve this story because it was my first manga story and therefore means something to me. So enjoy.

Chapter 1: Misako Minobe

"Misako! MISAKO!" I groaned as I opened my eyes slowly to see my younger nine-year old brother Masaharu staring at me, his black hair was rather messy, probably from just waking up, and his bright green were staring at my own. I let out a scream as I sat up and he covered his ears as he walked backwards away from me.

"OW! What was that for?" Masaharu asked as he glared at me. I returned his glare.

"What in the name of Amatsuhara are you doing in my room?" I exclaimed. Masaharu sighed.

"Did you forget that today is our first day at Rushioma Academy?" I blinked as I took in his appearance; he was wearing the elementary level Rushioma Academy uniform, a white shirt under a green sweater that was unbuttoned with a blue tie around his neck with brown pants and brown penny loafers.

"AH! I forgot!" I shrieked as I threw off my covers. I pointed at the door.

"Out." Masaharu blinked before getting what I was saying and exited the room quickly. I sighed as I changed into the high-school level female uniform, a white blouse under a beige jacket that was buttoned up with a black bow and a brown plaid skirt and added white stockings and black Mary-Janes. I grabbed my suitcases and ran downstairs to where my mother was cooking breakfast, my brother was playing a video game and my father was reading the newspaper. I sat down at the table as my mother placed eggs and bacon now, my mother didn't look like me at all, she had brown hair tied in a bun and blue eyes, neither did my father which made me wonder where my brother, sister and I had gotten our looks from, my dad also had brown hair but his eyes were grey. My parents insisted we had gotten our looks from a sister on my mom's side and a brother on our dad's side but it still made us curious.

"You two excited for your first day?" Our mother asked as she sat down. Masaharu and I nodded.

"Yeah." We replied as we began to eat.

"If only Asami could see you two…." My mother whispered. Silence filled the air, it had only been three months since our elder sister's murder, they had found her body in a river, and they never caught the killer. My sister was polite and good-natured, but she also knew how to fight and she knew Raka, magic so how was she killed so easily? That was why we were attending Rushioma Academy, a school for Rakanens, people who could use magic between the ages of six and eighteen, so we could attend school with other people like us and so, maybe, we could find out who would've held a grudge against my sister that they would want to kill her.

"She would be proud, wouldn't she?" I asked. My mother smiled.

"She would be very proud; she'd joke about Masaharu getting all the girls and you turning boys' heads." She teased. Masaharu and I blushed.

"Like I would allow any boy to come near my Misako!" My father huffed. I sighed.

"I'm not a child anymore Dad!" I protested. I knew he was just looking out for me after what had happened to Asami, but still!

"Well, we shouldn't dawdle. We need to get to the train station before noon." My mother said as we finished eating. I helped my mother clean the dishes and carried out mine and Masaharu's suitcases to the car; we piled in and began driving towards the train station.

"Mom, are you SURE this is the right train station?" Masaharu asked as he glanced around the station, children were running around while their mothers either were trying to calm them down or giving tearful goodbyes to their husbands. The sound of trains coming to a stop of leaving was in the background.

"Yes, you see, there is a special gate that only Rakanens can see." My mother explained. I gave her a look.

"I don't see any gate Mom." My mother sighed.

"You need to concentrate, both of you." She said. Masaharu and I sighed as we shut our eyes, concentrating; we opened our eyes and gasped at the golden gate that slowly began to appear on the brick wall in front of us.

"Bye Mom, bye Dad." I said as I hugged and kissed my parents as did my brother. We grasped our rolling suitcases while picking up our other suitcase and headed through the gate, we saw other students of all ages standing by the train, either saying goodbye to their parents, talking with their friends, using their magic or chatting with their Ginos, which were magical animals who served as guides and protectors to Rakanens. Masaharu and I had our own, a white cat named Takeo, but we left him at home.

"Shin-Shin Tsuke!" A very familiar voice said. Masaharu and I looked at the white cat charm on my suitcase that was glowing, it transformed into a white cat with blue eyes and a red collar with a bell around its neck.

"Takeo, what are you doing here?!" Masaharu exclaimed. Takeo huffed.

"You honestly didn't think your parents would let you go to Rushioma Academy without me did you?" He asked. I sighed.

"Well, we need to figure out where to-AH!" I was cut off by someone knocking me down; I fell flat on my butt and let out a cry as I rubbed my butt.

"Misako!" Masaharu and Takeo exclaimed as they rushed to my side. Masaharu was glaring at someone.

"Hey! How about you apologize to my sister for knocking her down!" He yelled. I couldn't help but smile, even though I was the older sister, my brother felt protective over me and would defend me even if the person was bigger than him. I followed his gaze and my eyes widened, a boy my age with long silver hair tied up in a ponytail that reached his back and matching eyes was looking at us, he wore the male high-school level uniform which was similar to Masaharu's, only he wore a beige jacket unbuttoned with a black tie.

"You've got guts kid, I'll give you that." The boy said with a smirk as he held out his hand. I glared and stood up.

"I can stand up on my own perfectly fine." I said. The boy smirked once again.

"I can see where the kid gets his attitude from. I'm Kyoshi Okimasa and you?" He asked.

"Misako Minobe, this is my younger brother Masaharu and our Gino Takeo." I said, gesturing beside me. Suddenly a black dog with floppy ears that were a darker color appeared on Kyoshi's shoulders, Kyoshi jumped.

"GAH! Suzuko!" Kyoshi scolded. Suzuko huffed.

"You sure know how to treat a lady Kyo-kun, I'm Suzuko, this idiot's Gino, forgive his rudeness." Suzuko said as she bowed her head. I smiled.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Misako Minobe." I said, bowing. Masaharu and Takeo introduced themselves again.

"Um….you wouldn't by any chance know where we have to go?" I asked, embarrassed.

"I do actually, the elementary-level students go to the first three cars, the middle-school level kids go to the fourth, fifth and sixth and the high-school level students go to the final three." Kyoshi explained. I looked at Takeo.

"Are you going with Masaharu or me?" Takeo looked at me.

"You, the kid's a bit too annoying." Masaharu's veins popped as he glared.

"HEY!" I laughed and gave him a hug.

"You be good, ok?" I said. He nodded and grabbed his suitcases, heading towards a group of students his age. I, reluctantly, followed Kyoshi to the ninth car and we opened the doors to the last compartment car. Three people our age, two girls and one boy, sat on the seats. One of the girls had long raven black hair that was sleek and reached her back and light blue eyes, the other girl had light green hair in two braids with green eyes framed by glasses, she was reading a book. The boy had messy orange hair and golden eyes; he looked up from arguing with the raven-haired girl and grinned.

"Hey look, more people!" He exclaimed cheerfully. The girl glanced at us and smiled.

"Hi! Please sit down, we don't bite, at least I don't." She said, shooting a glare at the boy. I sweatdropped, how long had these two known each other? I sat down with the two girls while Kyoshi sat on the opposite side.

"So cutie, what's your name and do you have a boyfriend?" The orange-haired boy asked. I blinked.

SMACK!

The boy let out a howl of pain as he clutched his head and glared at the raven-haired girl who was holding up her fist, clearly agitated.

"Hentai…." She muttered. She smiled at me.

"Ignore him; he hit on me and Sakura-chan too." I blinked, Sakura…? Did she mean the other girl? I glanced beside me at the green-eyed girl who looked up from her book and gave me a smile.

"Hello, I'm Sakura Fushida; it's nice to meet you." She said as she bowed her head in greeting. I bowed my head as well.

"I'm Misako Minobe; it's nice to meet you too." I said. The raven haired girl looked at me.

"Misako I'm just wondering…is your hair dyed?" She asked. I blinked as I fingered my pink ends.

"No actually, this is natural." She nodded.

"Oh, ok. I'm Kuniko Toyota and this pervert here is Takuro Fukishima." The raven-haired girl said. Takuro sighed.

"I've only known you for two minutes and I've already been labeled a pervert?" He asked. Kuniko glanced at Kyoshi.

"Who are you?" Kyoshi looked at her.

"Kyoshi Okimasa and this Gino here is Suzuko." He said, gesturing to the black dog resting on his shoulder.

"Ah right! This is Takeo, my Gino." I said, gesturing to the white cat that lay on my lap.

"I suppose I should introduce my Gino too, this is Haruko." Kuniko said as a green snake slithered onto her shoulder.

"This is Gihei, my Gino." Sakura said quietly as a small blue bird rested on her shoulder.

"And this is Hoshi, my Gino." Takuro said as a white rat ran onto his shoulder. Kuniko raised an eyebrow.

"A rat? That's very fitting for you." Takuro glared. The conductor came on the intercom, telling us to be seated as we were about to depart. The train began to move and I watched out the window as the station disappeared, I smiled as I saw my parents waving goodbye, I waved back and relaxed into my seat for the long drive ahead. I heard Takuro and Kuniko arguing and Sakura trying to calm them down, I smiled as I began to fall asleep.
