The Trigger
Sometimes it takes
A hit to the head
And a jolt to the heart.
Sometimes it takes
A stray tear,
And the grin for the memories.
Sometimes it takes
A word.
Sometimes it takes
A picture.
Sometimes it takes
A face.
But it always takes
A trigger.
To remind ourselves
That the world goes on without us,
And that we're not immortal.
