Pure Hearts Wait
Ebba stared at the silver ring on her finger. Her bright purple eyes seemed to glow as she read the engraved words on the ring.
Pure hearts wait...
Her mother gave it to her when she got her first boyfriend. Ebba thought it was because she didn't trust her, because her mother had gotten pregnant at 15 years old. And now here Ebba was, 15 and curious, which her mother considered dangerous. She read the words over and over again, curiosity sweeping her each time. Pure hearts wait, but for what? The right time? When is the right time?
As she messed with the ring there was a knock at her door. She knew it couldn't be her two younger brothers, they had gone out to a cousins house to play. She knew it wasn't her dad, who had two jobs and was often at work half of the time.
"Mother?" She questioned, raising her eyebrow a little.
"Yes, it's me. May I come in?" She asked, "I've brought your breakfast to you."
"Oh, of course." Ebba said, and with that the door swung open. Her mother put the tray of breakfast on her knight stand, then bid a good morning. She was about to leave when she noticed her daughter playing with her purity ring.
"Honey, is there something that you want to talk about?" Her mother asked, fear creeping into her heart. Had her daughter done something?
Ebba contemplated shaking her head. She figured her mother would never understand, although she really should. Considering she had her at fifteen. She let a sigh escape her lips, "Just this ring...the words, they're very interesting. Yet, they don't really give you good advice."
"What do you mean?" Her mother asked, taking a seat next to her.
"It says, pure hearts wait. But what do they wait for? When is the right time? You always say to wait until marriage but, why? Why does God want us to wait until marriage anyway?" Ebba asked, causing her mother to give her a blank stare. She hadn't thought of all of this herself.
"Well I guess because..." She fumbled with her words, then pondered the whole thing for a minute, "Well you see, it's not so much that he wants us to wait until marriage it's...well it's because he doesn't want us to get hurt Ebba. Sex is supposed to be something happy and joyful. You're supposed to wait until you're truly ready for it, when you're older, and when you're ready to have kids and settle down. When you're in love, and no, not a teen love. But a true love, where you would do anything for that person. Where you accept them with all their flaws. When you're a child, your emotions are too wild to be having sex, let alone a child like I did. Though I am grateful for having you, and I believe you're a blessing from God, I do wish I would have waited until I had settled down."
"How do you know when you love someone?" Ebba asked, thinking of her own boyfriend, did she really love him? She had only been with him for a few months but she thought that she did. Was he just a crush? Or something more?
"You'll just...know. God will steer you in the right direction, but only if you let him." Her mother smiled, then gave her daughter a hug.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Just a random drabble.
