[An overcast morning. A young GIRL, about twelve or thirteen, walks up to a house. In the background we see small children and their parents going into the kindergarten through first grade school across the street. The GIRL knocks on the door in front of her, and looks down to see a cat. He is mangy and orange.]

GIRL: Hey, Sam. How's it goin'?

SAM: [Gives the girl a narrow-eyed look of pure hatred.]

[The door is opened and the girl goes into the house. She leaves the door open for SAM to come in.]

SAM: [Gives an unearthly snarl. Growls as he trots in the door, avoiding the girl as if she smells.]

GIRL: [Laughs at SAM. Moves to go into the kitchen of the house.]

SAM: [Hisses in surprise and runs out of the door.]

GIRL: You stupid cat.
