To those who voted today,
I am a high school student here in the United States (state undisclosed), and I've been watching this presidential race pretty closely. I started watching the news at 6:30 tonight, and nobody knows for sure just yet, but it looks like Obama has pulled it off yet again.
It doesn't take too much reading of my other essays to know that I'm not thrilled with the results of this election, but what's done is done, and it's time to stop arguing.
However you voted: thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for realizing that what we have in the United States is something special. Thank you for taking advantage of the opportunity to exercise your rights as a citizen. Thank you for taking responsibility for your country. Thank you for letting democracy work like it's supposed to - may the majority win. Thank you for sticking to your convictions. Thank you for following through in your obligation as an American citizen. Thank you for caring. Thank you for setting a good example for my generation.
Four years from now, I will be heading to the polls with you. And when I do, I'll vote for my convictions, just like you voted for yours. And that's the most I can ask of any responsible American.
Thank you again.
a grateful teenager
