It was silent. The man sat in complete and utter darkness. The sliding panel doors were closed shut. There was a single flame on the candle in front of him. He sat in front of it, his hands clasped together. He made no breathing motions or movement. The utter silence created a eerie atmosphere in the room. He breathed deeply.
He opened his eyes suddenly. The candle's flame increased in size. With one smooth motion, he took his index and middle finger together and put it through the flame. The fire stayed on his fingers until both flames were blown out.
He took another deep breath. He exhaled and fire lit the candle again. He got up and exhaled more air. Several candles were lit, illuminating the room. He took a couple more breathes before leaving the room.
"He is here," he mumbled to himself.
His name was Vincent Mui. The flickering flames of the candles revealed his appearance. Vincent's eyes were a jade green and his . He wore a thin white robe that was cut at his pale, milky shoulders that showed off his toned arms. His right arm was covered with a long, elaborately designed tattoo of a dragon. His black hair was cut short and trimmed near the ears. He wore long slimming black pants and wooden sandals.
He opened the door and walked out into the hallway. The walls were all wooden along with the floors. He made a quick turn and went down a stone stairwell. The walk alone took around twenty minutes. He pushed open a bookcase in half and walked through it. It shut behind him. He was in the library complex.
He opened the exit to the library and found his way into another hallway. He walked into another room with a single mirror on the wall. He touched the mirror. The glass rippled as if it were water. He walked through the mirror as he came up from a still pool of water.
He was completely dry as he walked up another stairwell. He made his way up to a dark room. He jumped through a concrete wall and he tumbled out of a pagoda. All around him were pagodas, tall and wide. He made his way down the thick forest of pagodas and stood at the top of a staircase. The steps continued down until the fog covered it. He sat on the top of the staircase as the wind began to whip around. A few hours passed. He stood back up as a faint glimpse of Tempest walking up the stone steps.
He saw Vincent. Tempest began running up the steps. He reached the top. The fog surrounded each of the pagodas like roots in the dirt. He walked into the fog. The fog blocked off behind him. His vision switched from normal to infrared. A red blur zoomed past around his eyes.
"Vincent?" yelled Tempest.
He began walking further into the fog. He looked around. He spotted a multiple waves of heat and cold flashing around him.
"What the-"
He turned around. He looked to his left and right. He sent blasts of air everywhere, trying to send the fog back. This place creeped Tempest out. He wasn't generally scared of things, but he likes being able to see things in front of him. He concentrated, then sent out a blast of air. The wind surrounded him like a bubble. Vincent was standing in the clearing. His head was down. He looked up at Tempest.
"Are you Vincent Mui?"
"...Who told you I was here?"
"Adam Northcutt. He said you would be willing to help me."
"Adam. I told him not tell anyone about me unless it was urgent. Is this about the rift?"
"What rift?"
"The holes in the Magical plane. Stopping off people from travelling back and forth. They are getting harder to get past."
"If you mean something real bad is going to happen, then yes."
"Somebody told you of this premonition?"
"Yeah."
"Who?"
"I don't know. Thomas Wise wouldn't give me bad information. This man must be someone very powerful. But why would he be friends with someone who could see into the future?"
"Everybody has their reasons. What is yours for coming here?"
"Anyway, Vincent. I need your help. I want me to help you join my team of superheroes."
"Yes."
"...I shall join, one the condition that I fight you. I have yet to find a worthy opponent for me."
"Okay."
Tempest took one of Wise's communicators from the suitcase and handed it to Vincent.
"This is yours. If you need help, call me or Adam. Wise'll call you when he wants to meet up with all of us."
"Good. Now we fight."
Vincent readied his body into a fighting stance. His suit told him that a magic energy source was emanating from his body.
"Uhhh...we'll all practice together at some point. Maybe when we're called over by Wise."
"No. We fight now."
"I'll fight you later, don't worry."
"I will leave now."
"Wise is going to call us through the communicator when the time comes. You don't have to leave yet."
"I must leave. You as well. This island will sink in less than ten minutes. It destroys itself and transports itself to the Magical Realm. Then it reforms in another location. Then I find it. It appears here most of the time, but not this year."
"What? Magical Realm? Just-"
The pagodas behind him began crumbling to dust. Strange lights cascaded into his body as he stood there chanting in an strange language. The plethora of illuminations formed around his chest, then around his neck. It took the form of a talisman necklace. It created a pale, faintly white aura around Vincent.
"Let's go, Tempest!"
Vincent leaped into the air and landed on the stairwell. He dashed down the steps as if they were a slope of ice. Tempest turned around and followed. The stone tiled ground began to rise up and attack Tempest. He quickly formed a shield around him and sent them flying. Tempest sent back a tornado as thousands upon thousands of stone tiles flung towards him. He sent out a huge blast, but the tiles kept coming at him.
The sky started to change into a calm blue into a raging explosion of blacks and greys. Whirlpools formed all around the water, each one shooting out a current of lightning at the sky.
He ran down the stairs. Vincent was faster, but Tempest was close behind him. Suddenly, The fog began to clear. Tempest saw that the stairs under them were dissipating.
"Watch out!" Tempest said.
Vincent saw the steps. He flipped backward. His whole body glowed green and he pulled out a small fan. The faint green aura surrounded him. The fan was made out of pure steel. He swiped the fan through the air. Purple mist emanated from the fan, creating a cloud. He stood on the cloud as if it were solid.
Tempest tried to fly up. There were still small floating stairwells that were left from the mountain. Metal chains grabbed erupted from the water and grabbed Tempest. He tried to increase his speed, but to no avail. Vincent pointed the fan at the chains as the mist formed a volley of gaseous arrows. They pierced through the chains and snapped them into pieces.
The small stairwells fell into the ocean. The ocean began rumbling. Vincent swiped his fan around some more as mist surrounded him like a bubble. His whole body was concealed. Tempest readied his arms with surrounding wind. The water below them bubbled violently. A whirlpool began to form
Suddenly, a massive Chinese style dragon flew out of the ocean. It zoomed up into the air and circled the skies. It made rain pour down from the heavens. The clouds turned a
"Not good," muttered Vincent.
"A dragon. Out of all the stuff I've fought with Anthony, I haven't fought a dragon."
"He is called Panlong. The Coiled Dragon. He will cause a great storm. Not good for this realm."
"Doesn't matter. We have to take it down before it does anything to the coastline. Got any ideas?" asked Tempest.
"...This area is hidden by magic. But it will have repercussions near China. Give me a distraction. You attack it. I will protect the coastline. You hold him off, then I'll take over."
"Let's go."
Tempest spun around, forming a tornado around him. He picked up the water along with him, creating a water spout. He slammed into the dragon's body. It roared ferociously. The dragon spiralled its serpentine body and created a tornado. The massive winds did the same as Tempest and created a water spout. Tempest rushed away, trying to avoid the dragon's attack.
Tempest tried to send quick blasts of air along the dragon. The dragon swiped his armour, then tried to wrap around him like an anaconda. Tempest flew upwards, and landed right on it's head. He grabbed its horns and tried to ride on it like a bull. The dragon slithered along the sky, and dived straight into the water. Tempest tried to hold on, but eventually the dragon managed to free itself.
Meanwhile, on the coastlines of China and North Korea, Vincent was creating illusions with his magic. Vincent took a deep breath along the coast and swiped his fan along the sides. He flew along the coastline, creating a bubble all around the Bohai Sea. He moved slowly, but the force field was creating a huge dome around the Bohai Sea.
The dragon flew out of the water, and Tempest followed in pursuit. He shot multiple blasts of air at the dragon, while the dragon rushed past him trying to knock him over. Nothing seemed to be hurting Panlong so far except for the water spout. Without Tempest noticing, the dragon opened its mouth and sent out multiple water blasts at high pressures. Tempest fell into the waters below. He looked up into the sky, and dashed upwards again.
The dragon swiped at Tempest with his arms, and just barely grazed past his right arm. Tempest grabbed onto the dragon, and punched one of its scales. The dragon shook his body violently, and threw Tempest off again. The dragon rushed past him and hit him square in the chest with its tail.
He fell backwards. The dragon rushed up into the air, past the cloud line and roared loudly. The power of the roar felt like the sky was having an earthquake. Rain started to pour up much more could feel the effects of the storm getting stronger.
"Mind hurrying up, Vincent?!" yelled out Tempest.
"Don't rush me, Tempest. I will be back soon. Just let me recover."
Tempest held both his hands together and dived into the water. He started to spin slowly, and began to speed up faster and faster. He stopped abruptly, then rocketed up into the air. Tempest shot out of the gulf and under him was a hurricane. The sapphire waters cascaded around him quickly and pushed him upwards. He moved around his arms, and the winds moved the waters around his arms.
Tempest, with his arms, rushed straight towards the dragon. The flying serpentine beast noticed him and headed straight for him. Tempest weaved under him and tackled into its coiled under body. He used the force of the wind below to push the dragon down into the offing. The dragon roared violently and a lightning bolt struck Tempest in the small of his back.
Tempest pushed the rest of the hurricane into the dragon, and the dragon disappeared into the depths below. Tempest hovered backwards. Blood dripped from his right cheek and his armour was worn down by the constant attacks from the dragon. Vincent appeared soon after and moved towards Tempest.
"I think I've handled it," said Tempest as he held onto his left side.
"No. You've slowed him down, but it's not enough. Let me handle it from here," replied Tempest.
"He hasn't come up for a little while. Maybe I did get rid of him."
"Wait for it..."
The dragon bellowed from the water. The water began to bubble again, and the dragon came out of the water. Lightning flashed from the sky, and the dragon was on the loose again. Tempest was about to go after it, but Vincent stopped him with his right arm.
Vincent was swiped his metal fan, creating more purple mist. The mist surrounded the dragon, and it grouped up together, forming shapes. They became snarling tigers, ready to attack at any moment. They pounced onto the dragon, biting and clawing into its scaly body. The dragon roared as it fell back into the water; its body disappearing along with the tigers.
"It...was that easy?"
"Weak water, Tempest. Makes using my powers easier."
"Why didn't you just do that from the beginning?"
"I had to shield the coastlines. Create and illusion. From the coast, it looked like there was just a freak storm. But this was nothing compared to what I can really do. I am still waiting for that fight, Tempest."
"...Looking forward to it."
Vincent's body glowed green again. A ethereal flute like projection appeared upon his lips. He played a simple pentatonic based melody. A cerulean mist appeared in front of Vincent as he flew through the cloud. He disappeared into nothingness.
Tempest tried to sped up his ascent, but couldn't. His body was aching from the fight with the dragon. He couldn't believe he just took down a living, breathing dragon. Tempest's head felt like it was going to explode, and his back was sore. He kept a low altitude as he hovered towards England.
