A spin-off of Mary Had A Little Lamb - written for an English Composition class years ago.
This is a revised version of an old submission posted on my previous account.
Mary had a black sheep
That gave her so much woe,
And always by her own paths
That lamb was sure to go.
An odd and stubborn dreamer
With disregard for rules,
It made the other sheep laugh
To see her play the fool.
But Mary had a favorite.
One day it became clear:
The other lambs all looked the same;
It was the black sheep she held dear.
