Let's not buffer the details -the zombie apocalypse has fallen upon the small town of Maywalk, and Tharin is only certain of the lives of three people. His sister's. His mother's. His own. A generator runs an electric fence, keeping the dead out, but they're running low on fuel. To make things worse, his mother falls ill. Surviving gets harder by the day. How long will they last?

Souls to Save
Chapter 00: We told him not to go
"I'll be back."
Words that were supposed to keep us safe, sane and strong. It'd been a vow; an oath. A promise.
A lie.
Because he didn't follow through. He never did come back. Instead, he'd left me and my sister fatherless; my mother a widow. Our farm may have been fenced in, but at the end of the day, we were defenseless.
Maybe he would have come back if he didn't have a bad knee. Maybe he would have survived if he'd taken one of the guns. Or maybe there was no hope for him to begin with.
I can't forgive him for leaving. Not when we know when we have food, water and a roof over our heads. That he left for almost no reason only fueled my anger.
But I can't forget him either. Not him, or the look in his eyes when he knew it was the end. That moment when he turned around, met my gaze as he was swallowed up by torsos, arms and legs. I could see it in his eyes: he knew it was over.
And we knew it was just the beginning.
