Visit From the Future
'I once dreamed of turning back time. Until now even, I wish for many impossible things. I want to fix a few regrets. Maybe I'll meet other people, make more friends…, maybe? Who would know?'
'If only I could, I'll whisper to my younger self suggestions. She'll get praised by class. I'll tell her when to talk, I'll tell her when to keep quiet and listen for a while. Keep on telling her that no one minds a mistake here and there. I'll listen to her because only I could understand. I'll keep her company. I wish only she could see me, I'll stay with her in class if I could, while her classmates are talking to each other, she won't always have to keep silent, I'll talk to her.'
'I'll make sure to gain her trust. I might even tell her how everything turned out with me. She, I mean, I met many people on these time, I made friends. I believe she'll meet them here as well. Maybe I only made a few, but those few mattered.'
'As if on cue, someone called out to me, I mean the young me, in the cafeteria. This girl asked if the young me wanted to eat on the table with her. The young me smiled, but she declined politely. When we finally reached the corner table, I asked her why she did so. She answered me the way I most expected her to. She told me that she prefers to stay with the people she's already close with. It just happened that I was the one closest to her, sadly. If I don't go soon, this girl would never meet anyone else. She'll end up alone eventually. I did want to change my past. Maybe give myself more confidence but, from what I'm seeing now, I'm taking more of it. I think of my life in the future again. Everything's been fine, everything has turned out well. I smile. Slowly, I started leaving her. Surely this girl from the past could take care of herself. I made friends with that girl from a while ago, I'm quite sure she'll do too. She wouldn't look for me because she won't be lonely anymore. If she ends up looking, she'll do exactly what I did. And she'll have her answers soon.
'Maybe-'
''Hey." Cara said as she tapped her friend on the shoulder. She earned a look from Lily as a response.
"Would you might want to consider going now, we're going to be late if we don't hurry." she continued. "Yes, I'm almost done. I just have to add a few more words." Lily answered. She faced her notebook again and thought of something for a minute. "Perhaps you should go ahead, I might take long after all" she smiled. Cara considered the idea, "Thanks, I'll see you after class then." she replied as she smiled back. Cara stood up and gave Lily one last wave before leaving, Lily just smiled back. Once Cara had gone beyond the cafeteria door, she started writing again. 'Maybe the past doesn't need me…I thought about it again and maybe she didn't even need me in the first place. She looked at her watch, 'Wow, I am going to be late.' Lily thought. She closed her notebook, she stood up. She saw the table at the corner and she paused for a while. She remembered the first time Cara asked her to eat with her. Why did she decline? She sat there alone before. Or was there someone with her?
There was a reason, everything had one, but how could she forget that there was also a reason why she thought about the time traveling story in the first place.
All of a sudden, the bell finally rang. She picked up her bag and started running to avoid getting scolded by the teacher for being late in class. At least Cara wouldn't have to be late with her and they'd be scolded together. She hated being alone, but she preferred being alone rather than dragging someone down.
I guess she'll never remember the visit from the future…
