Hello, this is not my first story, but it is my first FictionPress story. This is NOT a songfic. (And obviously, I don't own the song in the description.) It's hard to explain but this story is a series of stories, each having a different main character. If that's confusing, I'm sorry.
And yes, this story is about angels. Enjoy. -AFF
"Saturn!" Someone behind me shouts.
I turn my head curiously. "Good morning," I say with a smile when I recognize the person calling my name. It's a friend from the class next to mine, 2-C. We have art class together.
She catches up to me, returning my smile. As we walk to school together, we start talking about normal stuff. A few more girls join us and soon we reach the school gates.
A bicycle zooms past us just as we are about to enter the school.
My friend blushes when she catches sight of the biker, then shouts, "Hey! You scared us Eiji!"
The guy on the bike stops and shoots us a friendly grin. "Morning girls!" He's Task 3. He laughs before riding away.
We all go inside the building and split up.
I make my way to my locker. As I pull my locker open, loud music permeates the air and I turn to my right. It's a boy with earphones covering his ears. The music blasting out is loud that even I can hear it. It's Taki, Task 2. He has a locker right next to mine. I smile to him but he only gives me a glance and says nothing.
The people around me suddenly quiet down, their eyes turning towards the school's entrance. I follow their stares and see a girl with glasses coming in. It's Sumi, the student council secretary. She's Task 5. She walks pass me and spares me a glance. I smile, and she looks away.
As I walk down the hallway, another friend catches up to me. He's from my homeroom.
"I'll walk you to class." He says smiling.
I smile back. "Thank you. How's school?"
"Pretty decent. Although my math teacher is brutal." He replies easily with a casual shrug.
"True. Mr. Fudaka can be quite challenging." I remark. Mr. Fudaka is Task 1.
The warning bell rings.
"Saturn?" A voice inquires, and I look up. It's a pretty girl with a shy smile.
"What is it?" I ask smiling.
"Um, I'm from the school newspaper. We- I mean I, would like to interview you. I'm interviewing transfer students." She says with a soft voice, a hint of slight nervousness in her words.
"Sure, but can we do that later? I need to get to class." I suggest, still smiling kindly at her.
"Of course!" She says, a look of relief on her face. "Can you meet me at the library during lunch?"
"I'll be there." I promise. She nods and then walks away. That was Ume, Task 4.
"You're a busy person." My friend observes after Ume leaves.
"Yup." I agree as we reach our homeroom, 2-B.
I open the door. "Hello Saturn!" Someone shouts as I walk in.
"How's your morning?" A fellow classmate asks.
"Good to see you, Saturn!" Another one yells. I smile and wave to all of them.
I sit on my desk, and quite a number of people come up to me.
"Hey Saturn, can you give me some love advice?" A girl requests.
"Can you help me on my science homework?" A guy asks.
"I need help rehearsing my lines for the school play." Another says.
Before I can reply, the class bell rings and the teacher enters the class. "Alright, take your seats." She says in a loud voice.
I give a sorry smile to my classmates as they reluctantly go back to their desks. Classes go by, and finally it's lunch.
A few girls go up to me. I recognize them from my P.E. class. "Hey Saturn, want to eat lunch with us?"
"Oh, I have an interview at the library right now. I'm sorry." I apologize with a polite smile.
"It's alright." One of the girls replies. I lightly nod and then walk off to the library.
I enter the library and it's filled with complete silence. No one seems to be in there except the librarian. I decide to sit at one of the back tables next to the window. I'm surprised to see a guy that's sleeping there. That's Mamoru, the sixth and last Task.
"Sorry I'm late." A girl shouts behind me. It's, Ume. She runs up to me, trips, and falls. I offer her my hand. "Thank you!" I smile.
Just then, I hear a groan coming from Mamoru. Apparently he just woke up.
Ume's eyes widen and she hastily apologizes. "I-I'm so sorry!" She tells Mamoru, giving him a bow.
"It's okay." He mumbles, shaking his head and yawning. He puts his head back down and drifts into a sleep again.
"So Saturn. You transferred to Gokuji Academy three weeks ago?" Ume asks.
"That's right." I reply smiling.
"Were you scared?" She asks curiously.
"At first I was, but then I became brave and made many friends." I say.
"I see. How do you like this school?"
"It's very lively. The people are nice and the school cleans up well."
"Do you miss your old school?"
"A little, but I'm glad I have the chance to meet more people."
"Alright, thank you so much." She says as she writes down my responses.
I smile. "My pleasure." She returns my smile and takes her leave. I don't feel like eating, so I stay in the library. As I sit there, I begin to think about the circumstances that brought me to this complicated situation.
I fly as fast as I can towards the Eraser Angel assignment building. It's my fault I woke up so late. To make it worse, today was an important day.
A tall pure-white Greco-Roman building appears in my line of sight, its tall pillars lifting up to the skies. I finally reach the building, folding my wings.
I run inside. "I'm here!" I shout, trying to catch my breath.
The advisor turns to look at me. "Ah Saturn! You're late!" He says with a mean smile. The other second year Eraser Angels giggle.
"I'm terribly sorry." I say, smiling back at him.
"Everyone has already chosen their assignments." He tells me.
"Is that so?" I ask. "Which leftover do I get?"
"The remaining one is in Gokuji Town. You need to erase six Tasks."
I slowly nod my head. This is not the way to start my second year as a full-fledged angel.
When the bell rings, I get up and make my way towards the library's exit.
"Excuse me." Someone calls. I stop and turn my head - it's the librarian.
"Can you wake up that young man over there?" She asks, pointing to Task 6.
"Sure thing." I respond with a smile
I walk over to him and pat on his shoulder. He doesn't wake up. I shake his shoulder this time. He moves a little, and then wakes up.
"It's the end of lunch." I whisper in his ear. He blinks before getting off of his chair. He heads toward the exit. I notice he left his bag on the table. He's just like a zombie! I run after him.
"You forgot your bag!" I shout when I catch up to him.
He turns his head and I give him his bag. He stares at me sleepily and mumbles a small 'thanks.' I smile at him.
I walk over to my next class, anticipating the end of school. I do my work as usual, and soon the last bell rings. After a quick trip to my locker, I run out of the school in a hurry.
"Look who's excited for the weekend." A girl shouts at me as I pass by her.
I smile back at her and continued running. I keep running all the way to the old, abandoned park. Catching my breath, I summon my wings and hold out my right hand.
"Gate of Heaven, open." I command. A bright light appears in front of my legs and I step below it. A cool sensation goes over me. I find myself before a gate and see about 20 other angels here.
There are multiple Communicator Angels standing in front of the gate, all spread out. "Hello." A Communicator Angel greets me.
"Hi. I need a door to the Eraser Angel district." I tell her.
"May I see your ID?" She asks. I show her mine. "Alright." She snaps her fingers and a door appears next to her. "You should reach the town square of the Eraser Angel district when you open that door."
"Thank you so much." I say before opening the door. Bright lights appear and then I'm suddenly at the town square. I stretch my wings and fly over to the assignment building.
I walk in the building and I see a few second years there giving reports. On the first Friday of every month, it is mandatory for second years to give a report on their progress.
I go over to my advisor. A fellow second year has just finished his report and is leaving now. I give my advisor a bow.
"Saturn. Gokuji Town assignment. I am planning to erase the 6 Tasks in one week during the Cultural Festival." I inform my advisor with a smile.
He smiles back. "Alright, remember the conditions."
"Yes, I must get them all within 77 seconds." I say.
"And your weapon?" He asks, an eyebrow raised.
I summon my silver gun, a Beretta 92FS. "I have it ready."
He nods in approval. "Good luck then!" He waves a goodbye to me. I smile back and then head towards the exit.
"Oh right." I turn around. "I'll be sending a Memory Angel to you in one week." He calls to me just as I am about to leave.
I nod my head and spread my wings before taking off into the sky. I fly towards the edge of the assignment building area. "Gate of Earth, open." I say. I go to the bright light that appears in front of me and then I'm back to the abandoned park.
Suddenly, I hear a sound beside me. It's Task 6, and his lazy eyes are staring at me—specifically my wings. Surprised by his presence, I freak out for a few seconds before calming down.
"Hello there." I say politely.
"Hi." He says back. He doesn't look surprised, not that he ever changes his expression.
I begin to debate on whether to erase him now, but then I'll have to go find the other Tasks. And to make it worse, a Memory Angel isn't with me right now. Oh well, the Memory Angel that's going to come can always erase his memory then.
"You didn't see anything right?" I ask, tucking my wings away.
"So you're an angel?" He inquires. He completely ignored me!
I laugh a little. "Yes, I am." I hope he doesn't believe me.
"That must be fun." He replies. My smile widens.
"Well of course." I say. He starts walking away, and I run after him. "Where are you going?" I need to keep a close eye on him now.
"Don't know."
"How about home?"
He thinks for a moment. "Fine."
We walk for a while in silence until we reach his place. He opens the door to his average sized house, and a woman comes to greet us.
"Who's this, a friend?" She asks; must be his mom.
Task 6 doesn't reply, so I do. "Yes. I'm Saturn. Thanks for having me." I address her with a bow. Ignoring us, Mamoru walks up a flight of stairs. I give his mom a smile and then I follow him. He goes into his room and I follow his lead.
The silence between us… I can tell it only bothers me. He's sitting near his worktable looking like he wasn't fazed by the silence. I should start a conversation.
"How does it feel to be dead?" He asks.
"Well, I feel like a normal human, except with wings." I reply.
"Is flying fun?"
"Yes, it's a nice feeling." Another pause. I look around his room and notice a photo frame that's blocked by dust. Iblow away the thin layer covering the picture and see a young Mamoru with his parents. Like lightning, something suddenly zaps my brain. I drop the frame in surprise.
"What happened?" Mamoru asks, eyes watching me.
I turn around and shake my head. "Nothing, the frame was just slippery." I pick the picture up and look at it more. Something's odd about this picture. I shake my head and force myself to forget about it.
"What are you going to do now that I know?" Mamoru stares at me with a slight hint of curiosity.
"Nothing yet. But I'm going to go now. Nice meeting you, and make sure to keep the secret." I respond as I open his window. I look around for signs of other people. The coast was clear; I summon my wings and fly away without a second thought about Task 6.
It's kind of a pain that humans can see angels - it makes flying around a difficult task. That's why we have Memory Angels to erase memories in case a human catches sight of us.
I make my way to a place that's covered with trees. As I descend, I fold my wings and walk around, yearning for some peace. Today's been a crazy day so far. But that photo still bothers me. Maybe I should search up Mamoru's family on my Angelpad.
I chose a spot on a bench and sit down. From my school bag, I get out my Angelpad. I type in his full name on the search bar and results come flying in.
Mamoru Kinoshita:
-Male, age 17, height of 5 feet 7 inches
-Curly brown hair, dark blue eyes
-On the Erase List
-Has been saved once from erasing but on again, reasons not available
Reasons not available? How can that be? Questions dance through my mind. This is suspicious, but I suppose it's better not to dwell on it. I get up and stretch.
"Stop right there, angel." Someone behind me says with anger. I freeze.
That's weird; my wings are already tucked away. I turn around and my eyes widen. It's a demon with blond hair and red eyes. His black wings are opened to their full wingspan in a magnificent and intimidating display.
"An angel?" I inquire, relaxing into a smile. "You think I'm an angel."
He shoots glares at me. "Don't try to fool me. I'm not a newb."
"Fine, you got me, so what do you want?"
"Don't play dumb with me. You're trying to recover your memories." He yells at me. Huh? I don't understand. "After finding out Mamoru is connected to your past life, you're trying to recover those memories!"
I walk up to him with a curious look. "He's connected to my past life?"
"Yeah! Wait. You didn't know that?" The demon is now wearing a dumbfounded expression on his face.
"I had no clue, but I know now. Thanks!"
He stares at me and then looks down. "Crap." There's a moment of silence. "Agh! How could I mess this up?! My mission was to stop you from recovering your memories, simple as that. The paper clearly told me to go here on the first Saturday this month at this time! There's no way I made a mistake!"
"You do know today is Friday, not Saturday right?" I inform him.
He pauses, freezing like a stone statue. "I'm useless…" He puts his head down.
"Don't worry, things will turn out just fine." I smile and pat his back.
He looks up at me. "You're my opponent! Don't comfort me!"
"So you're a 3rd year full-fledged demon?" I ask. We're sitting together on the park bench.
"Yeah. It might get revoked now that I screwed up." He says while studying me.
"Why are you staring at me so intently?"
"Just because." He replies. "Can't you get a Memory Angel to erase what I just told you?" Demons don't have to erase memories because humans can't ever see them. That's awfully convenient for them.
"Ehh? No way, this is getting interesting." I tell him. He squints his eyes in annoyance."I have an idea that will help us both."
"What is it?" He asks curiously.
"You tell me everything you know about my past that includes Mamoru, and after I erase him, I'll tell my Memory Angel to erase all my memories of it."
"That's stupid. First of all, why would you want to remember something if you know you will forget it? Second of all, how can I trust you?"
"Because I'm an angel." I answer him with a wink. "And for your first question, it's just good to know that right now, I know about my past life. Know now, and forget later."
"That makes no sense." He says.
I smile. "If you think about it, it does." I say. I turn to him.
"Fine, I'll do it."
"Yay!" I cheer and hug him. He goes stiff and holds a face of chagrin. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"So what's your name?"
"Kou, it's short for Kousaka. And yours?"
I smile. "Saturn."
Saturn's story will be told in 3 chapters, then I'll move on with a new character. I hope you look forward to them.
