When I listen to the night,

To the purples and the blues,

I find that there's a melody

Among those silent hues.

It's not a cricket nor cicada,

Nor any terrestrial sound,

This sweetly haunting tune,

To this Earth, it isn't bound.

High up in the heavens,

Vibrating among the stars,

It's a lonely cello solo,

Singing from afar.

Low and solemn in the shadows,

Sweet and mellow in twilight,

How I itch to join with

That lunar cellist tonight!
