Scene One
James and Emily are standing at James' locker.
James: Hey baby, I missed seeing you yesterday. What happened? I thought we were supposed to hang out at your place.
Emily: James, we need to talk.
James: Okay babe. No problem. What's up?
Emily: James, I'm pregnant. (Quickly looks away and doesn't make eye contact) That's why I wasn't around yesterday.
James: Are you serious?! My mom and dad are going to flip when they find out that I'm making them grandparents at their age.
Emily: Your parents? James, my mother gave birth to me when she was 17. She is going to say I'm making the same mistakes as her. Do you know how bad that hurts me on the inside?
James: I'm sorry baby. I'm just kind of freaking out right now. I never expected to be a dad at 17.
Emily: And you think I expected this?
James: That's not what I meant. I just need some time to think. I'll see you later. I love you and I'm sorry. (Exits stage right as Sarah enters from stage left)
Emily: I love you too.
Sarah: What was all that about? He looked like he had seen a ghost.
Emily: We have been best friends for 12 years so I trust you can keep a secret, right?
Sarah: Of course! I never told anyone about the time you kissed Thomas. What's going on?
Emily: I'm pregnant. I don't know what to do. I'm stressing out about how I'm going to tell my parents.
Sarah: Oh my God! Is it James'? Oh who am I kidding, of course it is. As for the parent thing, that's easy. Just don't tell them.
Emily: That will only work for so long. Don't you think they will notice when my stomach looks like a beach ball?
Sarah: I have a solution for that too. Just get an abortion. Then you won't have to worry about anything.
Emily: I don't know. Isn't that like murdering the baby?
Sarah: Nah. It's completely harmless.
Emily: I'm going to have to think about this. It just doesn't seem right to me.
Sarah: Okay, but in the end you will see that I'm right. (Both exit stage right)
