Y'know…There are some days not to be forgotten.
Today is one of them.
The day where just about everything happened.
I won an award. I got a great gift from such a nice stranger. Everyone acknowledges me. My smile is restored. I got back my home, my belongings, my savings, everything, from the bank, to me. The sun shines bright. The mission went on well. The party went on well. The whole DAY went on well.
Yet something gnaws inside of me. No one knows my little secret. Under the same face my teammates see every day, hiding under a mask, under the same cold and unpredictable attitude I have adopted, under the piercing grey eyes I own, my soul keeps a secret no one must know.
And that is…
"I LOST! AGAIN?!"
Games.
"GRRRRRR." My fingers turned to rage mode as they tapped the buttons repeatedly, moving the analog stick aggressively, as my character ran through hordes of wyverns, my dual blades slashing and slashing around in the fierce Demon Dance attack. All my other friends in the same quest were just dying and awake, dying and awake.
Well of course it's hard to fight through a Tigrex, Kirin, Lao Shun-Lung, and the crab monster thingy. Believe me, it's hardcore to fight five of each of them when you only have 5 people by your side. And since this is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite…well then dammit!
"OH SHOOT!"
And then I died.
"ANOTHER 10+ seconds lost!"
I heard footsteps echoing on the grass but just when I was about to hide my beloved PSP under and put on my grim face, I respawned.
"Ah, leave it be," I grumbled under my breath as my lieutenant popped up from behind our base. My brows furrowed once more as I defeated the remaining ten wyverns.
"Sergeant Tundra? The hell you doin' here?" Lieutenant 'Pops' asked.
I paused, took a breath, and replied, "Nothing, sir. Just playing."
Five seconds of silence before I realize he had crept behind me and was watching how I play.
He chuckled under his breath and took hold of my hands.
"Dude- Ah, sir, what are you- NO! WAIT! SHE'S-"
Then my CO started playing the game for me.
Aaaand…
HE DEFEATED ALL.
Of course, with the help of my gamer buds, who are too awesome to be let down.
"Here." He handed me back my gaming device, then patted and ruffled my hair. "You should learn from me sometime."
"Th-thank you, sir?"
"Don't mention it."
