Day 9
"So Bradley tell me, how was your week. Tell me what's new." The psychiatrist was wearing this face, the type of face that made you want to hit him, then apologize and tell him all your problems.
His patient on the hand was a thirty something year old who had apparently felt the need for consoling after breaking up with his fiancé.
"Well, I managed to box everything of Carol's. Haven't sent it to her, but there's nothing hanging around the house anymore that reminds me of her."
The doctor wrote something down on his notepad. "Do you feel better after doing that?"
"I don't know. I felt kinda drained, but I guess I felt better." Bradley was fiddling his thumbs and shifting in his seat. The subject of his ex was a sore subject for him.
"Is she still not talking to you?" The psychiatrist's voice was the same pitch as every other session. Low calming almost boring. If he were to give a lecture in the same voice, the room would probably fall asleep.
"No and I don't get why either. It's not I'm the one who broke of the engagement or slept with the wedding planner!" Brad was getting a little hysterical now.
"Brad we're staying away from that remember? She messed up but all of this that we're doing is to get you past that. Tell me something not related to her, did your sister ever come up to visit? I remember that you told me she would last week."
"Oh yeah she did. Forgot about that."
"What did you do while she was here?" He wrote some more things on his notepad.
Brad calmed down now that they were no longer talking about Carol. "We went and saw that new action movie. We went to a wine and cheese tasting thing. We even went to the park."
"The park. What did you do there?"
"Nothing really, all we did was sit down on a bench and reminisce about when we were younger. I think she was trying to cheer me up." His lips curled up in a smile.
"Do you think it worked?"
"Yeah, I think I did. She even got me to admit that if Carol wouldn't talk to me I shouldn't try to keep in touch."
"I know you've been trying to patch things up with her. To try to have some type of relationship with her. So your sister got you to say you give up on her. Did that make you sad, mad, happy what?" The doctor was still writing but when he looked over Brad was looking over with a disappointed look. "What?"
"Well I've been coming for three months and I have yet to make you say, "And how does that make you feel?""
The psychiatrist was giving brad a slow smile. "Really is that why you've been coming into my office every week? To make me say that?"
"Well, I didn't want say anything but yeah."
"Well I wouldn't want to make all this work for nothing so here we go." He cleared his throat. "And how does that make you feel?" He gave a very serious face to accompany that. Inside though he was pleased that brad could joke about his situation.
"Well there's that. Glad all this work paid off. See you next week Doc." Brad was chuckling good naturedly.
The doctor looked at his watch. "Actually yes your times up for the week."
"Wow good timing."Brad got out of his chair and walked over to shake the psychologist's hand.
"Yes, now remember for this week I want you try picking a hobby to fill up some of your free time."
"Yes doctor I remember, I'll work on it. See you next time doctor."
"Good bye Bradley." With that the patient and the doctor went their separate ways for the week.
