September sat at the kitchen table as he read the newspaper. He only bothered to look up when he heared November's voice.
"Has anyone seen August today?" November asked.
"He's taking a nap on the roof again," said April who was sitting across from September.
"Well, can one of you go get him? It's almost time for supper."
"I'll get him," September sighed, setting his paper down.
"Thank you, Sep!" November called as September walked out the door.
September walked out onto the front lawn. He got a ladder and leaned it against the house before climbing up to the roof where the summer month was lying. September saw that August was, in fact, not asleep, but staring blankly up at the pale pink sky. "Hey, August. Come on, dinner's almost ready."
No responce.
"I said dinner's almost ready."
Still no responce.
"Come on! You know November dosen't like it when people skip meals! Do you want to upset him!?"
August turned his head towards September. "Oh. Hello, Sep."
'Did he just notice me NOW?' September wondered to himself. "Why are you up here, anyway?"
August looked back to the sky. "I have no holiday," he stated, his expression remaining blank.
"What?"
August closed his eyes as the wind blew gently through his long red hair. "Everyone else has at least one special day. Not me though. I have nothing unique about me..."
September's eyes softened. He moved closer to August. "I know how you must feel. But, maybe it's not such a bad thing."
"...Why do you say that?"
"Think about it: Having so many holidays can be stressful for people. Sometimes, they need a break from special days. Besides, at least people don't immediately think of a bad day when they think of you..." September stared down at his feet, now quite glum. He then felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked over at the other man who gave him a small but kind smile.
"How about we go eat dinner? We don't wanna make Nove mad, right?"
September smiled back. "Right."
