Crackling lightning, rumbling thunder
I sat on the slide
Whilst you faced her.
Her face full of pride,
She started to say,
As I strained to hear,
"Be it as it may
Though it won't change, I fear.
You fit in with me
But me not with her.
I can offer you everything,
Yet she, but nothing."
And she asked you again
Whether it would be me or her.
Gray storm clouds, light drizzling
You stared at me with contempt
For her temper was fizzling
And my hair, unkempt.
You started to say
But I needn't strain to hear
"be it as it may
Though it won't change, I fear
I fit in with you
And you not with her.
You can offer me everything,
Yet she, but nothing."
You wait for my heart to break
And for my tears to fall.
Damp grass, a dazzling rainbow
I feel not a thing
As I stand in that meadow
Your friendship away I fling.
I start to say
As I watch her strain to hear.
"Be it as it may
Though it won't change, I fear.
For she fits in with you
And me not with her.
I could offer you something,
Yet I offer you nothing."
A voice in my head sighs and
To you I say goodbye.
