The inspiration for this was a nightmare I had last night and I felt that I needed to put it down on paper. So here it is :)
He walks through the dead city
Heart heavy with shame and pity
Pity for the families of those who have passed
Shame for his actions that would forever last
He gazes upon those empty eyes
Wide with eternal fear of their demise
His soul cries for their forgiveness
But death is a dirty business
For once the last breath is drawn,
It is truly gone
Lost in the mist
Like Death's last kiss
The Soldier fell to his knees
Begging God please
To end his misery
And to partake in Death's peaceful mystery
God answered with a booming cry
Stating that his request He would deny
For he had not learned the true meaning of life
Had not learned to appreciate the beauty of his wife
Or the gift of breath and true loves kiss
Both of which he would surely miss
So the Soldier stood tall
Head held high but heart still ready to fall
And he walked down the street
Hoping that he one day might meet
The God above
Whose sole purpose was to love
He walked alone
Smiling even as the dying groaned
Meaning had be renewed
To a life truly crude
As the Soldier walked alone
