Tonight
I couldn't displace
The world from the back of my eyes-
Not dreaming, no,
But very much awake.
And I do not fight it...
To dream now would allow
All of my fears to quicken my heart,
Fastening to my breath to creep into my lungs.
Sleep can come later
When dawn strikes against the glass
Signaling safety.
