Poisoned Birds
Author:
frankielauren PM
Rice is a symbol of the poisonous ideologies of our society - we are the caged birds being fed these corruptive ideas. Be it patriotism, religion or the need to conform to society. This is a poem inspired by the Romantic poet William Blake, specifically his collection "Songs of Experience".

By goes the woman

with her fatherless child;

The King needed more worthless men.

Spent the last dollar

of the man with no life

Left to give unto Christ fo lent.

Young is the girl

then so pure, now so wise

Destroyed by respectable men.

Birds locked in a cage,

Force-fed grains of rice,

Overlooked until our deaths.
