Title: Been so long that I forgot write this (D'oh!)
Well, I apologize for away from this paper for so long, I got so ahead of my life that I will gladly to you here.
To start off, since after I wrote my last entry, which is about3 months ago, I finished reschduling my classes. Not only I do still have English, Math and Drama, But I also got Career Focus back and got into American Studies, where we study the traits and political issues about America, and Psychology. I have learned so much about the two classes that I can't even pick which one is my favorite (well, the easy answer for me is pschology, but I can't help it for loving three classes, including Drama)!
In American Studies, I have learn and gotten new perpectives on every topic we've talked about. For example, before our topic about the death penalty, I was very mixed by it and sometimes I get confused by it. But from a little research and watching "Dead Man Walking" (you know, the Susan Surandon movie about Mattew Poncelet), I have a new persecptive for it and I am standing by my opinion. I apprieate this class because this is telling a lot from history I never knew (Granted, I've never taken a history class before and after my 8th grade class) and had me focus of the main point and the impact around the past and this era. Right now, we are learning about labor in the 1900s and I did my presentation of the Industrial Workers of the World, and I also can't wait to do more!
In Psychology, As I mention before it's my favorite, and it's true! The theories and psychological issues I've learned is fascinating, I always find myself infested to it! The famous 6 theories, the learning styles, The defense mechanic, all of those I have learn quickly and fully! Not to mention that the teacher in the class is THE MOST NICEST TEACHER EVER, she is just wonderful!
Now with the classes out of the way, let's talk about stuff that has been happening from the beginning of school til now. First off, you all know that my passion is Acting. Well, good news is when I auditioned for a show case and got in! I was doing a monolgue from Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memiors" and put me in the beginning of Act One! Though, it was a two nights performance, only with me interacting with other performers (it's almost forms like a story) and do a full musical dance at the end (we did a bollywood theme dance with the music of "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millioniare). It was a great experience for me and it was fun!
Another thing I did for Drama is I tried to audition for the first production of this year, Disney's The Little Mermaid. I didn't get in the cast sadly, along with auditioning for "In The Heights". But luckily, I sign up for crew work and doing hair and make-up, for a little fact that this is my fourth show I've did crew on.
In fact, I think it's fair to tell you why I love theater so much, maybe because you're curious or don't know why I'm doing all these things for Drama. Well, let's go WAAAYYY back into the past. When I was about 8 or 9 (I was in fourth grade), my class was forced to go to an audition for the school's production of the Lewis and Clark's Expedition. I was pretty upset at first, but when we come into the dance routine, I was suddenly get into the music and my energywent way up high that I was smiling! It is mosly what you feel as a child on Christmas day or you found out you are going to Disneyland for the first time. That energy inproved my dancing since I was first bored and lumpy! Weeks later, I found out that I got the lead part as Clark, but got my way as a Chorus Girl (I pretended that I have "Boys Germs" so the teachers would recast me. Hey, it was elementry school, I have a little kid, give me a break!). After that, when I moved into a different city and a different school, I auditioned for the school's production of "Wizard of Oz" and ended up as Munchkin (I was upset at that, but I later understand that I need to appreiate my role and go through it) And it was fun. Sadly after that, I moved into a different school by my mother, and didn't do anything theatrical. That is, until High School.
I first fell in love with Drama and musicals is when I was about 12 years old and was visting my dad in Arizona. We were going to Phoenix to visit my grandmother so I need to find a movie for the trip. That's when I first saw a DVD of the 2004 version of "The Phantom of the Opera". I asked my dad if I could watch it because I was so interested by it and he said I could. And boy, did it changed my life! I fell in love with the music, the story telling, I was really getting obsessed about The Phantom of the Opera. In which it led me to know and love other musicals and plays, like Les Miserables (by the way, I'm really excited for the movie :D), Shakespeare, Wicked, and the sort of gulity pleasure of mine, Love Never Dies (Please don't hate me).
The reason why is, even though I go through very tough times with my family and my social life, I love expressing myself and it entertain people and it is like santuary to me. I think the cool thing about acting for me is you're never tired of discovering and trying new things. To me, I always love to explore different types of personalities, tone, and motives with the character and I try to make it if I was living in their lives and how I cope from the events the characters live in. I also see this as a way to release stress and to regain youself again before anything bad happens. I know it is pretty deep, but it is the way I feel.
Now before I get emotional again, let's wrap it up. Recently, I've finished with my letter of recommdation and I have to wait til March to take the Compass test. Everything is going great with Little Mermaid, we're on our last week on performing, I love my classes, my grades are going pretty good and I can't wait til Christmas!
