Box Without a Ribbon
I.
Four corners
And four lines
That form a square
Drafted with white
And rising up,
Four walls of grey
And a roof of black
To seal it shut.
II.
Small –
Tightly caged…
A cage of black it was
With no cracks for air
Nor vents for lights
Nor holes to lease a sound.
III.
A scream,
An attempt at release…
Pounding viciously – desperately –
But it gives not at all.
IV.
The box was closed without a seam.
Sealed...without a ribbon on top.
