Thinking out loud. Written December 2012.
I am the used toy,
the teddy bear collecting dust in the corner of the room;
the leftover meal,
rotting away in the back of the fridge;
the ashes,
left to cool and settle in the fireplace;
I am the old t-shirt,
the one who's now one size too small and too damaged to be thrown into the Goodwill bag;
the wax candle,
who's mostly melted away and is no longer pretty, though still functional;
the latest tech gadget,
who was once the greatest, but now everyone anxiously awaits something better.
I am not who I used to be,
and it is only a matter of time
until I become a faded memory.
