A/N: Here's a new chapter, dedicated to Aly Jackson here on FictionPress, who has been almost begging me to integrate Monte back into the story. Admittedly, I wasn't planning on having her in the story until possibly the ending. But now I have this. I finally came up with an idea of how to get Monte back into the story, and I think it works out well.

Enjoy.

CHAPTER 12

POSSESSED CAR

MONTE was lying on her stomach with her earphones in and her iPod turned up loud, listening to OneDirection (her secret obsession) and staring at her phone. She had sent several messages to Kailen ever since she had gotten back from vacation. It had been cut short by her parents fighting with her grandparents about Monte and her lifestyle, grades, and other personal issues. Now, she just thought she could possibly get her favorite bag back from Kailen and maybe go to the mall or something to get some new combat boots. So far, no replies had come from Kailen, which typically meant Kailen was a) mad at Monte, b) got her phone taken away, or c) didn't have her phone.

Monte couldn't think of any reason for Kailen to be mad at her, and doubted she got her phone taken away. But why wouldn't Kailen have her phone? She always had her phone. A knock came at her door. Monte rolled off of her bed, taking her earphones out and tossing them on her bed. She opened the door. Her mother was standing there with her arms crossed.

"Yes…?" Monte asked cautiously. Her mother looked angry. Her brown hair was pulled up into a messy ponytail and she wore a maternity shirt that clearly showed her growing stomach and sweatpants. Even pregnant, she managed to look scary. Maybe more than when she wasn't.

"I was just wondering when you were going to come out of your room. You've been holed up in there for a day and I think you need to go get some sun. Why don't you ask Kailen to go do something?"

Interesting, Monte though. She looks scary, but she doesn't sound scary.

"She's not texting back. I don't think she has her phone."

Monte's mother raised an eyebrow. "Have you tried calling her house? Or going over there? Technology doesn't solve every problem."

"I know Mom." Monte huffed. "I guess I'll go over there." She got her car keys off of her desk and brushed past her mother and headed out to her car. Monte started down the route she had taken so many times before that she probably could drive it with her eyes closed.

When she pulled up in front of Kailen's house, a bad feeling came over her. She couldn't explain it; it was almost like a warning. The house looked normal enough, granted quieter than normal. Monte pulled up into the driveway, shut off her car, and then went up to the door and knocked.

Kailen's mother came to the door a few seconds later, looking like she was having a bad day. "Hello Monte. What can I do for you?"

"I was just wondering if I could talk to Kailen. I haven't gotten any texts back…" She trailed off from the look the woman was giving her. "What?"

"I thought it was weird that she wouldn't come back and get her phone, but she never told you where she was going? That's really strange." Kailen's mother sighed. "Anyways, she went to Europe with her grandfather. I'm not sure how long she'll be gone exactly, but her grandfather said it would be before school started up." She gave Monte a sympathetic look. "I could try to call her grandfather and you could talk to her."

"Oh, no. It's okay. Thanks." Monte said, trying not to let the confusion onto her face. She waved good-bye to Kailen's mom and went back to her car. When she got in, she stuck the key into the ignition, but it wouldn't start. She looked at the key to make sure it was the right one and stuck it back it. It was a brand new car; it shouldn't be acting up.

On the third try, the car did indeed start up, but the stick shift went, without Monte touching it, to reverse, and the car started going backwards down the driveway. Monte screeched and tried to open up the door before she crashed into something, but the doors were locked, and she couldn't unlock them.

When the car reached the end of the driveway, the stick went to drive and the car continued down the road normally, like Monte was really driving it. "OH MY GOD!" She yelled. "SOMEBODY HELP ME!" She banged on the glass and waved frantically to the people on the sidewalks, but nobody paid any attention to her, despite her accelerating speed that was about 30 miles over the speed limit.

Her seatbelt still on, she looked around her car for something she could break the glass with. She didn't see anything, and besides, jumping out of the possessed car going that fast would surely kill her. When she started paying attention, she realized the car was actually driving. Not just malfunctioning and rolling aimlessly down the road, but driving normally. She should have caught on when it changed from the driveway, but she was too scared to piece it together. As it was, she still didn't have all of the pieces. How was it even driving? Maybe somebody hacked her car. She thought she remembered a show like that once…

Monte tried to control her breathing. What should she do? Duh, call the police. That might help. Hands shaking, she took her phone out of her pocket and dialed 911.

"911, what is your emergency?"

"M-my car is going insane!" Monte half-yelled. "It's j-just speeding down the road and it's dodging everything! You have to help me!"

"Calm down," The man on the phone said. "Where are you at? Are there any other people in the car with you?"

Monte was seriously freaking right now. Everything outside the car seemed to be a blur from the speed. She looked at the speedometer and saw that it was down to zero. Broken.

"I don't know!" She yelled, and pressed 'end' on her phone, ending the call. All she could do was sit frozen in her seat. How was this happening?

After what seemed like years, the car started slowing down gradually. Monte looked out the window cautiously, trying to figure out where she was, but didn't recognize anything. She was out in the middle of nowhere.

Suddenly, the car took a left turn off of the road and started through a field of dirt. The ride was bumpy, and Monte's sunglasses fell off of the mirror onto the dashboard. When she finally stopped, she saw four teenagers standing in a line in front of her.

The one farthest to the left was a girl with red hair, pale skin, and a bad sunburn. The boy next to her had black hair and a leather jacket, obviously trying to look scary. A second boy next to the first was blond haired and looked exhausted, like he had just run a mile. The last person in the line, another girl, had black hair and tan skin. She seemed disgusted by the dirt ground, and kept looking at the boy with black hair sourly.

Monte considered getting out and making a run for it until she realized the doors were locked. Just lovely. She warily watched the teenagers while they argued about something, periodically looking at her. So they were talking about her, huh? They didn't seem surprised that she had just randomly come up to them in a car, but had obviously expected it. How did they even get her car here? They didn't have any fancy technology or anything, and not to mention they were all in the middle of freaking nowhere.

After the four teens had been talking for about five minutes, Monte banged on the glass. "Hey!" She yelled. "Why the heck am I here? Did you bring me here?"

They looked at her, all with an annoyed expression. The black haired boy said something to the blond, and he nodded, flicking his hand towards the car. The doors automatically unlocked, and the driver's side door was opened. Monte's eyes went wide. "H-how did you do t-that?" She stuttered. "What is going on here?!"

The black haired girl rolled her eyes. "I got this." Monte heard her tell the others. She went around to Monte's door and stood in front of her. Monte shrunk back.

"Get away, I'm going to call the cops." She warned. The other girl just sighed.

"You don't want to do that." She said. Her voice was strange sounding and calming. Monte felt herself relax slightly. Then the girl said, "You want to go to sleep." And Monte did, indeed, fall asleep, feeling like she was falling into blackness.

A/N: Sorry it's kind of short, but it's kind of hard to write about a character who is knocked out.
