i am not a butterfly
by
: october lies
(december 15, 2012 3:32PM)

i am not a
butterfly,
freshly erupted from a
tightly wrapped shell
of protective webbing
over bad memories.
i am not a
butterfly,
freed from all my
childhood fears
and broken teenage
dreams.
i am without fiery,
patterned wings
made from bright
explosions
of all the
beautiful colors
of my soul and the dust
from all the worn
parts of my heart;
too lovely,
too fragile to
touch.
i am still
wrapped in all
my high hopes
and leafy
asipirations
that age yellow
before season.
i am still
trying to bury
myself in all
that makes me alive
but i haven't
a clue
how to be anything
but blue and so
i fall instead
learning to fly.
