What Really Happened

12/21/2012 - 11:30 pm

Time to go. I had prepared everything last night. The boat, rented for $15/hour. I would pay that guy later, assuming he was still alive. A pair of long, wooden oars, perfect for rowing the boat out into the middle of the lake. A weeks worth of dried fruits, nuts, and some strips of beef jerky. A large metal bucket, for holding water, a smaller metal cup, for carrying water, and a large bottle of iodine, for purifying the lake water when I ran out of the fifty-pack of plastic water bottles also on the boat. A sharp dagger, to... guarantee my safety. And a crudely made bow and a quiver of arrows, that I actually knew how to use.

I get into my car and drive towards the lake. The boat is there, covered in the tarp I had thrown over it. I sigh in relief. No one had seen it, or tampered with it since yesterday while I was gone. I get out of my car, leaving it on the dock. There was no telling whether or not I would need it later, but it didn't hurt to keep it just in case.

I lift the tarp. Everything is in place. I get in the boat, and row out into the middle of the lake, throwing the anchor down. Now, it is time to wait. If I am wrong, there is no need for the boat, the food, the weapons, and all the time I had spent on maximizing the length of my life. If I am right, I have every need for everything in this boat, for it would keep me alive, breathing with a beating heart in my chest. I hope I was wrong.

I check my watch. It is almost midnight, 11:59 to be exact. And that's when the screams start.

Review if you want this story continued. :D
Next chapter will be longer, I promise.
