AN: Another of my short thingies I have clear no idea how to categorize and dumped in here as a result. This one is about language. Oh, and can you guess what idioms are being talked about? I know it's kinda vague, but.. *shrug*
Humans and their languages... such strange things.
Put the wrong kind of emphasis on a word, or on the wrong word, gives it an entirely different meaning. Stress on this word or that is important. Lots and lots of rules that seemingly lack any reason dictating word arrangement.
You can pronounce one word ten different ways, and that one word could mean ten different things. You could also pronounce ten different words the same way, yet have those ten words mean ten different things.
Can, won't, want, need. They make a big deal out of if and when, yet use "when hell freezes over" to express disbelief. Does the use of "when" not acknowledge it will happen at some point?
They consider much rain similar to dogs and cats, associate bad dreams with female horses, think kicking a container of liquid synonymous with death, and liken something easily accomplished with part of a dessert.
Humans seem to have difficulty expressing themselves. They seem to hope that the one they speak to can instinctively know what it is they want, or they say one thing and mean the opposite.
Humans. Homo Sapiens, they call themselves. They cannot connect mind to mind, and as such have found a another way- yet such a way fraught with deceit and the knowledge of possibility of deceit.
Humans and their languages... strange things... yet so fascinating.
