Site Romeo Delta: Post Apocalypse

Operator 18802: .MIL "Bravo 4"

Romeo Delta, a former regional hospital, complete with Psychiatric and Surgery units, these units shut down, Psychiatric Patients moved to site Papa Kilo after eighteen EMPs went off and western civilization collapsed. The government of Canada secured several dozen Regional and local hospitals to collect people who needed shelter , and designated Operational Military shooters to guard these locations, it was the wild west outside these compounds, I had the privilege of guarding one of the most dangerous of these locations.

Security Forces Families were located with the security forces in the underground staff parking. It was measure to keep them safe from everything that the outside world would through at us. We had the perimeter locked down and snipers on the roof of the building. With HMVVS with Mark 2's on constant patrol of the area, as well as a few 7.62 Light Machine guns at strategic points throughout the building in case we had to repel the attack. There were six security teams that operated on eight hours shifts. But off duty Security Operators would join other teams to reinforce the line on their day off. We were constantly patrolling the hallways to make sure that everything was secure and safe. We currently had over two hundred people inside the hospital, that was a lot for 60 guards to handle, but we had to do it until the weekly evacuation helicopters arrived.

On occasion we would run rescue missions to the families of refugees that we had a good chance of recovering, no one was getting left behind. We did this at night to run the best chance of survival possible.

"Bravo four to Romeo Delta, we're rolling on Jackson Close now, we've got the house in site, it looks to be clear, over,"

"Romeo Delta for Bravo Four, affirmative, prosecute the target,"

"Copy that Romeo Delta, will advised when we are back on the vehicles, Bravo Four out,"

I shouldered my C7 tactical (replaced the standard hand guards with IRS and the ECLAN site had been replaced by a hybrid site (sniper scope on top, red dot on the side), also attached a hand grip and bipod on bottom rail and a suppressor), then led my team into the house, we were quite as church mice, Jay had picked the lock, enabling us to breach silently. "Front room clear," I whispered into my comm. Set, "Team one on me, top floor, team two, hit the basement,"

"Copy that,"

I dropped my rifle, it hung to my chest with a one point sling, then pulled out my P-14 .45, we crept up the stair case, we opened doors as we blew by making sure the floor was clear. We reached the last door in the hall, the team stacked up, from our understanding this was the master bedroom, I checked the door handle, locked, "Connor you're up," Specialist Connor Lowry, former US Army Ranger, handpicked for the post apocalypse task force, he was a Weapons Specialist, carrying an M240 Bravo and an AT-4, along with the M1911 .45.

"Hooah," he whispered, he circled around the team, and gave the door a swift boot, once it swung an inch open I was through it,

"Team two we have the package, regroup on the main floor," I paused "Mister and Misses Green, my name is Hawk with the Government Task Force, we're getting you out of here,"

"Thank you,"

"Team reverse movement, go," We moved the package down the hallway and back downstairs, "Get back on the vehicles," I ordered, we moved outside in an arrow formation keeping the packages shielded, "Romeo Delta this is Bravo Four we have the packages Romeo Tango Bravo ten mikes,"

"Copy that Bravo Four, safe driving,"

We drove through the empty streets at eight kilometers per hour, fast enough to out run anyone trying to chase us. Our entrance was the staff parkade entrance, the HMVV's parked at the bottom of the ramp. This was probably one of our quickest refugee runs. "Romeo Delta, Bravo Four is back on site, all victors accounted for."

Dante walked over to me, "When are we on patrol next?" Dante Pear was my spotter, carried an C8 assault rifle with an M320 and an ACOG scope, he was ex Princess Pat's Light Infantry, I had known him since he was 16.

"We're on the roof tomorrow morning from eight till four with Raptor and Eagle."

"Well at least the companies interesting," he laughed, being up on the roof was kind of boring, we made our own fun but we didn't shoot at all our orders were not to fire unless we were in immediate danger, our game plan was to keep a low profile, as if three humvees patrolling the perimeter wasn't low profile enough, but men dressed in Urban ACU with automatic rifles on the roof and in the tight perimeter didn't make it obvious that this was a hardened structure.

We walked up the ramp to our quarters on the upper level of the parkade, Corporal Houston, one of the Communications Specialist stationed in Romeo Delta, "Sergeant MacMullin, command and control is waiting for you on the screens up in Sierra Charlie Level 3."

"Got it Tex," I turned to my platoon, "Reaper, and Raptor with me, the rest of you rest up for the rest of the night,"

I took my two Element leaders, up to the tele-conference center, after grabbing a sandwich and coke from the canteen in the lower levels, we went to the room, "Sir your online with Sergeant MacMullin of Bravo Four." Houston called,

"Sergeant, what is the progress on evacuation of all friendly civilians?"

"Sir we sent out about a thousand with the first helicopters, and we have two hundred and ten ready to ship out on Saturday."

"How did the Green family rescue go Sergeant?" Colonel Smith asked

"We were out thirty minutes, all protocol was followed, no shots fired."

"What about road gangs and mobs in your sector?" the Colonel asked again

"Sir they seem to be focusing in the northern sector of Romeo Delta, we have a predator overlooking the sector every hour."

"Good, good, how's the troop moral holding in your sector?" he looked at his paper infront of him as I looked at his chest, combat medals from Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia, probably from a younger life as an junior officer.

"We blow stuff up weekly to improve it,"

"Understandable, Sergeant this week will be your final load up, afterwards you and your company will be shipped out to Camp Whiskey to a wait directive from command authority."

"Yes sir understood sir, what is the progress on the new company Officers?"

"All Officers are barred from entering hot zones Sergeant you know that, continue to assist with command of the combat teams, you'll link up with your LT when you land at Whiskey,"

"Will there be anything else sir?" there was a brief pause, I thought the system had frozen.

"Sergeant, we have a situation that requires your attention in Papa Kilo,"

"My team can be airborne within the hour sir, what is the mission spec?"

"There has been an attempted uprising with in Papa Kilo Charlie,"

"Not surprised sir,"

"You are to apprehend and kill the man on screen two," I looked over, I knew him, I knew him better than he knew himself. He was my fiance's ex-boyfriend, "Remove him from the equation and the uprisings will stop,"

"Sir I will execute with the utmost prejudice." The guy had caused a lot of problems for myself and my fiancé,"

"Good Sergeant, I expect a report by twenty one hundred tonight,"

"Yes sir, anything else?"

"Not at this moment Sergeant MacMullin, we will see you at twenty one hundred."

"Reaper, grab Demon and Ako, Raptor, get the Griffon started."

"Got it Chief,"

I left the briefing room, C7 still handing from its sling across my chest. My fiancé, Kirsten, was waiting in the cafeteria on the main floor for me, she was up extremely early. It wasn't even seven thirty yet, she smiled behind her coffee when I sat down, "How'd it go?"

"Better than expected," I paused then looked at her with abit of nervousness,

"You're going out again?"

"Yeah,"

"Where?"

I hesitated, and looked down the hall, "Ponoka," she all of a sudden knew what we were going to do,

"Are you going to video tape it?"

"There cannot be any evidence." I looked at her, I was not going to video tape me executing a psychiatric patient who started an uprising in a hospital, I'd do it so everyone could see and the message would be sent that any uprising would lead to an execution.

"Hawk, this is Raptor,"

"Raptor, this is Hawk, send traffic,"

"Griffon's up and running,"

"Copy, I'll be out there in five,"

"Copy, we'll be waiting."

Kirsten and I walked out to the eastern vehicle bay, she held my hand all the way to the doors, "how long are you going to be?"

"Three-ish hours,"

"It's good to know that some things never change,"

"I love you Kirsten,"

"I love you too,"

I hit the door opener, walked through the vehicle bay and out on to the catwalk leading to the helicopter pad. Raptor had already opened the co-pilot cockpit door, before climbing in, I could see Kirsten looking out from the vehicle well main garage door, I smiled, then looked at Demon, he was on the C6 in the gunners seat, Ako was on the other gun, I climbed in, "Brandon, we have clearance to take off from Romeo Delta," Reaper called from the Crew Chief's seat. I pulled on the headset, "Romeo Delta, this is Griffon One, clearance received departing to Papa Kilo, Echo Tango Alpha three hours return,"

"Griffon one, the is Romeo Delta Tango, copy that cleared for Papa Kilo, wind is five knots out of the east,"

"Copy,"

I shut my door as the helicopter started to lift off, "Command Central this is Bravo Four, heading for Papa Kilo Charlie, authentication X-ray,"

The twenty minute hop to the Papa Kilo seemed longer than usual, we all knew what was about to happen, the execution of a civilian was absolutely forbidden until it gets to a certain extent. A doctor met us on the helipad when we arrived, "Sergeant, I have had the patient detained in the solitary confinement cells."

"Where's the head of the Security Force,"

"There she is now,"

"Sergeant MacMullin," she called,

"Warrant Officer Winter," I replied, "How'd it happen,"

"Still not completely clear, our star witness is not talking,"

"Well I hope you've got all Intel you need out of him,"

"Why is that Hawk?"

"We're here to make sure he doesn't wake up."

"I have received Colonel Smith's recommendation ten minutes ago, couldn't agree more,"

We marched down the hallways, weapons strapped to our chests, the doctor opened the door to solitary confinement, he looked at me, a first at confusion, I knew he saw my name tag when his face turned to anger and his eyes went red, I pulled out my .45, a double tapped him between the eyes, "Doctor, take pictures and have them hanging from the walls so they don't try it again,"

Our flight for the most part was uneventful, until we got back over Romeo Delta, we started taking light arms fire, "Command Central, Command Central, we have been engaged, I say again, Griffon one is taking fire!"

Reaper was on the gun for the trip back, "Reaper!" Raptor yelled, "You got them?"

"Affirmative,"

"Griffon one, you have permission to engage."

All of a sudden an alarm started to blare, "What the fuck is that?" I asked,

"Tail Rotor's been hit, I'm losing control!" Raptor yelled, "Mayday, mayday this is Griffon one we are going down!"

"Get inside the helo!" I yelled back to the gunners.

"I'm going to try to but it down at the North Mall!"

"Romeo Delta this is Bravo Four Actual, we are hit and going down, attempting to put down in North mall parking lot!" The helicopter started spinning out of control, I heard somebody yell something from the back but couldn't understand it.

"Copy that we are dispatching Alpha two to extract you, advise you get as far south as possible."

Then the Griffon slammed into the pavement.
