This story is dictated to my best friend Jessie. She was not a Husky but an Australian cattle dog x. (Australian Border collie.) She was 12 years old. (That is over 91 in human years). A month short of her 13th birthday. Jessie Past away on the 22nd of June 2012. I adopted her from my local pound (RSPCA) when she was eight weeks old. I've had her for a long time (2000-2001). She was my first dog. And adopting her was the best thing I ever did.

Whenever I was upset or hurt, she was always there for me, sitting at my feet.

To me, when an animal lives for a long time that means it is happy and content. And loved and cared for.

I miss you buddy.

"That's it Sweetie, one step at a time." John encouraged his daughter who just woke up from a coma and is going through some deep physical therapy. To get her body to move again. It was hard to see his daughter's face. And to see her in pain. Her speech came back slowly.

"Come one Honey, you can reach Silver. He's waiting at the other end." Julia said. Silver gave a little bark of engorgement. Slowly Max reached Silver and gave him a hug. After that Max was exhausted. All day she was training to get the use of her legs back. She was taken back to her private room.

Max was beaten up at school by another girl over a month ago. Bethany Weathers has been arrested for assault on another student. Her father refused to pay for bail because he is ashamed on what Bethany had done. And because Max's mother is a big lawyer. Bethany has been expelled from school.

Silver never left Max's side. Joel, Jake and Lucas went to visit her every day after school, telling her what happened that day, making her smile a little.

One afternoon. There was a knock at the door and max turned her head to see Mr. Milner standing there, holding a banquet of happy flowers. "This is from all of your teachers and me." He explained as he walked in. "How are you feeling?" He asked as a nurse took the flowers to put in a vase.

Max nodded her head. "So-so." She said. "I can go home in a few days. And be back a school in a couple of months." She said.

"The principal said to tell you that there is no hurry to come back. Just get better." Macarius noticed Silver on the floor next to the bed. "Dad, said that he never left my side." Max explained, when she noticed his look. "Good dog." Macarius reached over and patted Silver's head.

"Thank you for saving me that day..." Max whispered. "No need to thank me." Macarius said. Max brought her gaze back to Silver. "They use him in my physical therapy sessions." Max went on.

"Tell me about it." Macarius turned his attention back to Max. And Max did. When she finished Macarius stood up as he looked at his watch. "I better go before they kick me out. Keep up the good work on the therapy."

"I will. Thank you for dropping in. And can you thank my teachers for the flowers, they cheered me up."

"I will. See you."

Max smiled as he left. He didn't feel like he was her teacher when they were talking. He felt like that he was a good friend.

A few days later, Joel, Jake and Lucas were helping her settle back in to her home. Thunder neighed and galloped around in a circle when he saw her. "Hello Thunder." Thunder was a big black Australian Stock horse with a white patch on his head.

Joel helped her to Thunder who head butted her hand. "Hey boy, I'm sorry I haven't been home."

Later Max and her friends were chatting in the lounge room. Julia made them lunch. "How many animals do you have?" Jake asked.

"Well, there is Silver, Thunder, Sunshine mum's horse, and Night sky who is dad's horse. And then there is Misty. Sunshine is Thunder and Misty's mother and Night sky is their father. We kept the horses because it is rare for a mare to give birth to twins."

The boys nodded their heads, "Yeah we know our mother's are veterans." Lucas said. "Where are the other horses?" Jake asked. "Back paddock. Night sky doesn't really trust strangers and Misty and Sunshine are just shy." Max said.

Just then the phone rang. I'll get it." Julia called out and a minute later she answered it with a "Hello?" She listened for a minute and then said, "I'll be right there" and then hung up. "Max, I have to go to work. But your father will be home in an hour or so. Will you boys keep an eye on her?" Julia asked the three boys who nodded.

John and Julia trust the three boys. They have been there for Max ever since the beating. They actually haven't let her out of their sights.

The four teens watched a DVD and they didn't hear John come home. When the movie ended, John said, "good movie." He made the teenagers jump. "Dad, I've told you not to sneak on me like that." Max growled. John just laughed and asked the boys if they wanted to stay for dinner.

"We want to but our parents are expecting us home for dinner. Thank you though." With a wave to John and Max they left.

A few hours later Julia came home to her husband and daughter a sleep on the lounge asleep. She smiled and turned the TV off. Silver woke up and raised his head. Julia put a finger to her mouth and said, "Shh." Silver put his head back down on his paws and fell asleep.

The next day max and Julia were watching TV. "Coming up next. Sonia from the RSPCA is here with a special girl. Stay tuned.

A few ads later the show was back on. "Welcome back to Wake up. Today's visitor is RSPCA speaker, Sonia Wells who has brought the most beautiful dog I have ever seen. Sonia, tell me about her."

"This is Jewels, she is a Siberian husky, she is just four years old. She came to us when her owner abused her. Jewels had been abused ever since she was eight weeks old. We finally rescued her. She is very shy and doesn't trust humans very much. And we are looking for a foster home for her. Someone who can look after her and help her trust humans."

"Oh poor baby. If you think you can help her, please call the number on your screen right now..."

Max looked at her mother and whispered, "Mother... I think I can help her." Julia thought for a moment. Max and Jewels can heal together. Julia thought. "Let's go to the studio." Julia said and they were off with Silver in the back.

They got to the studio and talked to the director who gave the host the signal for an ad break. "We will be right back after these messages."

Once the ads were back on the hose walked off the stage and walked to the director. "Irene, this is Maxine Mathews, she was the girl who got beaten up. Remember the story?"

Irene turned to Max and shook her hand. "How are you?" She asked. "I'm alright. I just got released from the hospital yesterday. I'm here about the Siberian husky..." Max said. Irene signalled for Sonia who slowly walked up to them. "I would like to foster Jewels. We can heal together. I have another Siberian husky and I have four horses." Max went on to explain why she wants to foster Jewels. "I'll get the forms ready."

Irene smiled and went back to the set and said when she came back on. "Good news for Jewels, the husky, she is being fostered by Maxine Mathews, the seventeen year old girl who got beaten up by another seventeen year old..."

Max signed the forms and went home. Sonia will drop Jewels off. When she did Max showed her the horses and Silver.

When she left, Jewels hid under the dining room table. Max sat on a chair in the lounge room where she could still see Jewels. "Jewels, came here girl." Max stretched her hand out and waited for the young husky to come to her.

Silver watched from the distance. "Take your time girl. Has anyone told you that you are a beautiful girl? Well you are. Come here." Max said in a gentle and happy voice. Jewels just watched her with her ears flat. They twitched every time Max spoke, telling Max that she is listening...

I looked up the facts of Siberian huskies online. And yes, a mare (a female horse) can give birth to twins but it is rare, and dangerous for both the mare and the foals.

A mare pregnant with twins will usually abort both fetuses at about five to eight months.

very rarely but if it does happen 1 of the foals most likely will die also there is only a one in 10000 chance that there will be twins.

Added: in most cases a vet will recommend to abort one of the twins to save the life of the other. Occasionally equine twins are born without issues, but it is very rare. Both foals can be healthy at birth, and that's common when a mare has twins.

If a mare is fed too much while in foal with twins the foals will grow too big and she will lose them and/or die

Also if both are born healthy one will have to be bottle fed as the mare doesn't have enough milk for both.

It can also occur mare has triples, but it happened only few times (no more then 5) in the world. None of them ended good.

Oh and an Australian Stock horses... You might have seen them from the movie, "The man from snowy river." The Australian Stock horses are quick, tough and strong and owe some of that to their brumby (Wild horse) blood.
