I've made a few revisions after getting a review from somebody telling me about mistakes, so I took the time to fix them and more things I realized I had messed up on. Anyways, enjoy the revised version of the Bloodlines Prologue part one, Kaira: The Lonely Girl.

I've always enjoyed hearing stories told by the old men of my village. Stories of adventure and battles, Stories of the Dark Ages and the hero, Derid, who rose against the evil darklord Asgrio and freed the land of the evil. I've always been dreaming of going on an adventure just like Derid, but never expected it to ever happen, but just like my elders always said anything can happen.

First, before I begin telling my story I should tell you about myself, my name is Kaira. I'm fifteen years old and I've lived alone for ten years after my parents died and the only memento of them I have is a heart shaped pendant that they gave to me the day they died. I hate girly things so it doesn't suit my taste, but it's sentimental so I kept it and wear it every day. I have some friends in my village, Kalum, so I'm not lonely during the day. So, since I have myself introduced let's begin, shall we?

I was having one of my adventuring dreams once again until I woke to the sound of a voice yelling through my second story window, "Kaira! We're going to be late!" It was Cameron. I processed what he meant then realized I had Sword Lessons today. I take Sword Lessons just because I inherited a sword from my father, so I wanted to learn how to use it and I'm finally at the age that I can take them. Cameron takes them, because he wants to join the Village Guard.

I got out of my bed and changed my clothes. I took my necklace from around my bedpost and put it around my neck, and then went downstairs to grab a piece of bread and my sword and sheath. I've always found that keeping the sword on my back is not only comfortable but very convenient for quick draw attacks. I walked outside my house, adjusting the strap and found Cameron in one of my chairs looking out off the porch.

"Sorry, I spent some time cleaning around my house last night," I said.

"It's okay. You know you could always ask for help from me any time," he said.

"No, it's fine I don't want to trouble you."

"It's no problem I have too much free time, anyways are you ready for the finals today?"

"That's today?!" I said.

"You forgot?! Master Carin repeatedly reminded us about it," he said.

I did forget about it. The Finals were a fight between two students as Master Carin supervises and acts as a medic if one of us accidentally gets hurt. If we pass or not depends on how well we fight. We finally arrived at the field where we all practice and I walked up to our teacher and bowed to her.

"Good morning, Kaira, but you're late we've already started," she said, "You'll be against Cameron since he's late, too."

I was disappointed I knew Cameron was better than me, he's always beaten me at this ever since we started, but there's a good explanation for that, his dad is the captain of the Village Guard so he had earlier training. She directed us to an area with enough room for our battle, stood near us, and shouted, "Fight!"

Cameron took his sword from the rope tied to his back to carry his heavy Claymore. I took my Broadsword from its sheath and stood ready, a little nervous shaking because I've never faced him with a real sword instead we've always fought with wooden swords at home.

He ran forward holding his sword up ready for an attack I jumped out of the way and countered he put the tip of his sword on the ground and blocked, then used his sword to launch himself at me. I was kicked in the chest and I fell back. He landed on his feet and using his momentum, he launched his sword forward. I rolled out of the way, and kicked his legs from underneath him and raised my sword to his neck and he stopped for a second. Master Carin was about to call it until Cameron pushed my sword to the side and stood to put me in a headlock and put his sword at my neck. Master Carin finally called the match. I had lost. Cameron put his sword down and rubbed my head, "how are you feeling, hope your chest isn't hurting bad," he said.

"It's fine just a little sore now, but it did hurt," I said holding my chest.

"Sorry about that. I wasn't going to be easy with you even if you are girl or my friend. I needed a good score on my final."

"I figured you wouldn't.

"You did well though, you almost had me there."

After that, we had lunch and went home. We walked home together splitting up at my house. I walked inside and pulled my shirt off to check for bruises. I didn't have any, which was good. I pulled my shirt back on it's about a two hour walk from the field and my house so I grabbed a drink of water and remembered what the day is. June 27th the day my mother and father died. I felt a little depressed like I always do when this day comes around because when I think about their death I start imagining how my life would be if they were still alive. I saw the flowers I got for their graves in the forest cemetery.

Around sunset, I strapped my sword to my back for protection and started towards the cemetery. The golden light shone through the trees. I kept walking and, heard footsteps behind me I put my hand to my sword and swung around swinging my sword, but was blocked by a Claymore, "easy, Kai it's just me."

"Cameron?" I said.

"I was worried about you when I saw you coming into the forest after sunset so I followed," he said.

"I'm fine I've been doing this for years and never had a problem."

"Okay, but I'm still joining you."

"Fine, c'mon." We walked through the forest until we came to the cemetery.

"Oooh, cemetery after dark," said Cameron, "aren't you the thrill seeker?"

"Shut up, I'm here for a different reason," I said.

I walked over to the Graves that said, Kara and Jim Kodora.

Cameron looked at the names and said, "oh yeah, that is today."

I nodded and went to my knees and placed the flowers on the gravestone. They were Marigolds.

"Marigolds, the symbol of Sorrow," Cameron said as he kneeled down next to me. I just stayed silent beginning to feel depressed and I felt tears come to my eyes which happens every time I come to their graves and thinking of how much better my life would've been if they were alive. I felt Cameron's arm go around me comforting me and leaned against him accepting the comfort.

We were interrupted by the smell of smoke.

"Do you smell that?" I asked.

"Yes I do, but do you hear that?"

I stayed still and listened until I heard screams, my eyes shot open and said, "The village!"

We both got up and ran towards the village.

As we got closer I realized that they were screams of agony, so the village must be under attack, but by who? We entered the burning village and saw a huge black creature with long tentacle like arms and a glowing red eye. The creature grabbed a villager and sucked a golden light from the poor girl then ripped her body apart, blood splashing everywhere.

I grabbed Cameron out of fear and realized he was shaking out of fear too. Of course, something like that would strike fear into anybody. He shook his fear, drew his sword, and attacked the creature. It was sliced in half and fell so we thought it was dead and I ran to Cameron. As I ran, his eyes were filled with fear looking right pass me. I turned and saw another, I started backing up then tripped over a rock. I tried to move, but fear stopped any movements, my heart raced as it reached for me. It snatched at me and I covered my eyes waiting for my death. How sad, I thought, that I'm going to die on the tenth anniversary of my parents deaths. After what seemed like an eternity, I feel something wet dripping on me. I opened my eyes and saw someone else was grabbed by the creature and was being ripped apart slowly I didn't know who it was until I saw a familiar Claymore fall from the person's hand.

"Cameron!" I screamed. Seeing the death of my best friend froze me with grief. It finished ripping the body in half, and it turned its attention to me. I wasn't able to move at all from the shock, until a deep voice of a man said, Run Kaira! He has sacrificed himself to keep you alive! Don't let his death be in vain! Now, run!

When that voice said that my body finally moved at my will and I stood up and ran away. I ran as fast as I could, but I couldn't out run it. It was about to catch me until I was pulled into a corner.

"The Darklusts are here to kill us all!" said the person who pulled me and I realized it was one of the storytellers.

"Darklusts?! You mean the ones that Derid fought in your stories?!" I asked.

"Correct, my dear," he said.

I ran away in disbelief that something from a fantasy story is actually here. I ran into my house hoping to hide in it, but as I went upstairs, an arm came around the corner wielding a knife. That's when I met'him.'

Please review, even if it is a bad review (Grammar Nazis, welcome). Bad reviews are help me improve so I encourage you to tell me about any mistakes I may have made and I'll fix them as soon as I can as I did here. Thanks.
