A Shimmer in the Sky

I wonder as I reach up high

To pluck a shimmer from the sky.

I bring it down from its bed of night,

Hoping to shed a translucent light.

But the star doesn't stay forever lit

In this world of worry and regret.

Before I can make my simple wishes,

It glitters, grows dim, and then vanishes.

It's gone in the very blinking of an eye,

And I, again, reach up high

To pluck one more shimmer from the sky.
