Graduation
The spark of fire
in the night sky
tells me everything
I need to know.
Another year has arrived,
pushing away the older one.
For better or for worse –
I do not yet know.
Time brings potential
to do, to be, to live.
But it creates memories;
a deep, lingering sadness.
Despite the new opportunities,
I miss the times of the past.
The times life raped away
before I was ready to leave them.
Will I ever be ready, though?
even now, I recall clearly your smile
and the way my name sounded
when it rolled through your lips.
Goodbye, my lovely friend!
I miss you dearly, painfully –
longing tears through my broken heart,
leaving it damaged beyond love.
But I will not give up, not yet
Though you are gone from me,
your memory still lingers
in this faded poet's heart.
And so I leave you, my memory
and turn to face the new year
as it approaches, alarmingly rapid;
bringing tides of unknown nature.
I will leave behind the colour
and turn to face the unknown.
It might be gray, it might be bleak –
but life was made for the passing of time
