Survival

My mind is tossing on the sea,

In my bonnet lives a bee.

I lie awake, for sleep won't come;

Butterflies dance in my tum.

I lie awake from dusk till dawn

My one escape– my dreams- are gone.

And so begins another day;

How I've survived this, I can't say.

I just can't take this anymore;

The noise, the screams, the blood, the gore.

A bullet grazes past my head;

Behind me one more man falls dead.

I just want to end my strife,

Stop the game and take my life.

I think, then, of my kids and wife

And slowly I put down my knife.

Just for them, I'll stand and fight

So I can live through one more night.
