This is a little tale I wrote about my little sister when I was bored out of my mind and absolutely annoyed of the party raging upstairs.
So here goes...
She stepped into the Secretary's door, annoyed out of her mind.
She was late again for school. For the fourth time that week. To her parents, that a VERY big deal, but to her, it's just another way to get out of her morning Math lesson.
"Why are you late….?" Char said automatically, pen and paper ready to mark her down as a late student.
"Slept in…" She answered just as automatically.
Being in 6th grade and all isn't so hard for her, but it just gets really annoying considering VERY overly obsessed "i-need-a-boyfriend-now" girl classmates that constantly bother her with shit she doesn't want to hear. But she has to admit though; she loves a good drama show in the middle of class.
"Here you go." Char handed her the slip. She instantly went back to her work, and Avery walked out of the room.
The halls consisted of a "plastic mixed with kids' sweat" kind of smell, with the look of an old fashion school with dark brown doors and halls, and the metal of the door handles were touched by only God knows of. This school goes back generations, and it feels like the Teachers here never aged with the school.
Avery passed the Gym, the west wing bathrooms, 5th grade classrooms, before finally reaching her worst nightmare, her class.
The kids in the class were all "bipiddy blah blah" and chatting, totally ignoring Ms. Price and her teachings of the Math lesson Avery hoped to skip "accidentally."
Avery had no problem walking on in, giving her slip to the teacher, and plopping right down on her seat and dropping her bag beside her. She secretly wished she brought her IPod in with her, but she always ends up forgetting it at home in the meantime. She decided to stare at a book under her desk and ignore everyone.
One minute, all the kids were quiet, and the next, all the kids started gawking and whispering about something VERY interesting.
"Oh my GOD!" Kirby quietly said, astonished.
Avery rolled her eyes. She continued to pick at her nail polish instead.
"Datt…" Darian said aloud. Kirby shushed him up immediately.
"Ohh…." Devin whispered, also surprised.
Avery inhaled deeply and looked up.
Well, to Avery's eyes, this is just some regular new kid, but to everyone else, especially Taniah and Angel, he was gonna be the next most popular kid in school.
"What the hell is the big deal?" Avery slams her fist on her assigned desk. "You guys look at him like he just shit out a cow!"
Kirby sarcastically gasped, "Watch your language, missay!"
Avery giggled to her response and kept on looking at the guy. He just smiled like he was sorry for being late or some shit, like off the movies.
He had REALLY dark hair, which was probably dyed. He had tan skin, and REALLY dark and big eyes. Avery questioned the size of them compared to a regular Native guy. He wore a plain black sweater and regular camo jeans like any of the kids in Avery's class. He seemed to wear them properly instead of them sagging halfway down his ass. He seemed to carry around a sense of... civil class.
"Alright, this is David. Be nice to him, since he is just getting used to the school," Mrs. Price nodded to him and David nodded back.
That's when Avery looked beside her and there was a new, gray covered desk aligned perfectly with hers.
Shit.
Oh well, she thought, maybe he might be nice.
David sat next to her and didn't say anything. He just pulled out some old textbook of the Math lesson and didn't speak. Nevermind, then, Avery thought.
After about 2 or 3 hours, it was Snack Time, where the students pull out snacks from home so they won't be complain about being hungry in the middle of class.
Avery pulled out a pudding cup and ate it, and was planning out how her conversation with David was hopefully gonna turn out to be like. She was deciphering if Hi or Hey, but when she remembered what a dickhead he might be like, she thought, screw it.
She shouldn't even bother, she thought, she didn't feel like getting in an argument right now with Angel and Taniah over some kid she doesn't even know. She doesn't even know his last name! That's stupid, holy shit.
How the irony couldn't get any worse, turns out, when she went to go put her bookbag back in her cubby, David had his cubby stationed RIGHT next to hers.
And Angel and Taniah were walking behind her, as well. This is gonna be SOO pretty, Avery sarcastically thought.
And just as Avery hung up her book bag in her cubby, Angel and Taniah went to town on their stupid, predictable, whore-able plans.
"So you're new, uh?" Taniah asked. Standing WAY too close to him. He towered over her pudgy, short self.
"Yeah, where did you come from?" Angel asked just after, standing mere inches behind Taniah, patiently waiting her "turn".
"I... came from…. Salmon… yesterday…" He sounded awkwardly intruded. Well, with two short girls trying to come on to him and invading his personal space would creep just about anybody out.
He just stepped back away from them and his tenseness relieved, but his face was still hard. Then, Taniah and Angel stepped right back into his bubble again.
"Why don't you just back off?!" Avery blurted across the hall, totally giving away that she was watching them. Holy shit, she thought, the hell?!
Taniah and Angel looked at her, amused, but mad. Avery directed her gaze to the ground, suddenly.
"You girls just go after ANY guy you lay eyes on. Talk about a couple white bitches! Show some pride and actually do something right and respectful for once in your lives!" Avery kept her eyes at the ground, yet she just knew that they were fully facing her now.
"What?" Angel asked.
"I said, back the FUCK off. And maybe there will be one less person to think badly of you!" Avery said.
Maya appeared beside Avery almost instantaneously. "Yeah, you go Avery!" Maya was all smiles and confidence and freakin' rainbows and sunshine and stuff, and that boosted Avery.
Taniah spoke now. "Do something 'bout it!"
"We will, bitch!" Trinity called. She immediately got up in Taniah's face and Taniah immediately backed off. She was scared.
Maya laughed at Taniah.
"Niah, lets just go inside." Angel didn't look at Avery. Angel and Taniah didn't think about going inside twice and just darted into the door.
When Avery's eyes traveled back to David, he was practically buried in guys. Talking to him, yelling at him, regular cliché, but when Avery was walking back in the class, she looked back. Her and David locked eyes for a long instant.
This year is going to be VERY interesting for the both of them.
