Prologue - March 15, 1971
Nurse Charlotte Sims could hardly contain her excitement. A new location! New beds, new equipment - all funded by the city. This would be the last hour she, or any of the patients, would have to spend in this damp, dilapidated building. The hospital staff were on cloud nine - the women twirled, hugs were exchanged, tears were shed.
But even as the last patients were driven off to the new site; even as they were wheeled into new, shiny rooms; so lost in joy were these doctors and nurses, that they didn't realize that something had been left behind.
