Chapter 7

"Cause I see you with him, slow dancing"

James was really starting to loathe school. He hated waking up in the morning knowing he would have to see the hand holding, kissing, and hugging displayed by Emma and Carter. It was horrible and it hurt like hell. He also hated seeing Carter's stupid, smug face every day. God, he is hands were itching to break his nose again.

"You okay?" James was jolted out of his thoughts by Scarlett's voice.

He nodded exasperatedly, rubbing a hand over his face, "Yeah, I'm fine. Do you need anything?" He didn't mean to sound snippy, but his dejected mood was starting to morph into anger.

However, Scarlett was unfazed, "No, I don't need anything. I was just wondering if you were okay, you haven't finished your worksheet and class is almost over." James looked down at his paper and indeed, the only thing written on his paper was his name. "You can borrow my paper if you want," She offered.

James immediately felt guilty for being mad at her when all she was being was nice. He smiled slightly, "Thanks." He looked at the clock and sighed forlornly, "I think I'm gonna skip Professor Gordon's class. I just need some time to myself."

Scarlett nodded sympathetically, "I get it."

James smiled then groaned in dismay, "Aw man, I forgot my ipod."

"Here," Scarlett rummaged through her bag, handing him her ipod, "Just take care of this."

James felt his whole day get just a little better, "Thanks, for everything." He smiled a bit sadly, "Music is what makes this whole thing less painful."

James walked stealthily around the campus, making sure to avoid any security guards. He popped in Scarlett's headphones, scrolling through her music. He chuckled suddenly when he hit a certain group. Well, most girls did love this band. He mentally shrugged, no one was around and he really would take anything at this point. He pressed play on one of the songs, raising the volume all the way up.

The first voice came in, "I'm broken, can you hear me? I'm blinded, cause you are everything I see. I'm dancing alone; I'm praying that your heart will just turn around. And as I walk up to your door, my eye turns to hit the floor cause I can't look you in the eyes and say…"

Another voice came in, "When he opens his arms and holds you close tonight. It just don't feel right cause I can love you more than this, yeah. When he lays you down I might just die inside. It just don't feel right cause I can love you more than this."

And another, "If I'm louder, would you see me? Would you lay down in my arms and rescue me? Cause we are the same. You saved me, and when you leave it's gone again."

Another, "And then I see you on the street in his arms, I get weak. My body fails; I'm on my knees, praying."

Back to the second voice, "When he opens his arms and holds you close tonight, it just won't feel right. Cause I can love you more than this. When he lays you down I might just die inside. It just won't feel right cause I can love you more than this."

Another, "I've never had the words to say, but now I'm asking you to stay for a little while inside my arms. And as you close your eyes tonight, I pray that you will see the light that's shining from the stars above."

James paused it with wide, astonished eyes, "Whoa."
