EAGLE SPIRIT

I sit alone atop this mountain

Staring out at the open plain

Humans seem so small from here

Immersed in their ignorance and fear

I spread my wings, I fly

They stare up at me

As I pass by

They marvel at my power and might

As I take my silent flight

I am majestic, I am strong, I am pure

As I penetrate this sky azure

I soar above the sea and land,

My flights are never planned

I used to be predator, but now am prey

I am no longer allowed to be what I may

Slowly man is killing me,

No matter how much I plea

My sons, daughters, brothers and sisters are dying

I am crying

Humans with their war machines, pollution

Nature provides no solution

The bears, the wolves, the whales, the salmon are all disappearing

My once beautiful forest becomes a vast, empty clearing

Slowly I close my eyes

I try to ignore my children's cries

The great eagle spirit is broken

Its words are no longer spoken

My world is dying and crying

So I resort to flying

I view the carnage and devastation

As death consumes my nation

Maybe one day in the future

The carnage will be fewer

My children will live in peace

And this curse of death will cease

Until that day comes, I have to stand by

And hear them cry

Please, someone out there, here my plea

For only you, human, hold the key

For if you destroy our home

You are the ones who will be alone

For in destroying us, you destroy you

You think you'd see the clue

This world is in need of balance

So sow the seed, and see the plants

Then my eagle spirit will soar...
