You took your place in the middle of the stage

I took mine in the sea of faces watching

You looked nervous, insecure, obviously unsure

Even from afar I can hear your heart beating.

Your voice was all scratchy and your stance was clumsy

But it was all perfect to me

You looked everywhere but in my direction

But when you finally did,

All I saw was... perfection.

Maybe for them your song was plain

And actually it really was

But what made it special was that

I knew for whom it was.

Your voice was all scratchy and your stance was clumsy

But it was all perfect to me

You looked everywhere but in my direction

But when you finally did,

All I saw was... perfection.

And your voice was all scratchy and your stance was clumsy

And you were perfect for me

And I felt you were singing in my direction

And when you looked at me,

All I saw was perfection.

Four years passed and we grew apart

You forgot all that we had then

But even though you broke my heart,

at least I have the memory of when...

Your voice was all scratchy and your stance was clumsy

And you were perfect for me

And I felt you were singing in my direction

And when you looked at me,

All I saw was perfection.
