How Can I?
You got in trouble for kissing me in public
Your mm punishes you – but also me
I can't hang out with you or contact you
Just because we kissed in public
You let her do this, and you say ok
Who do you think you are?
How can I be with a man?
Who's so controlled by his mother?
Who can't even defend himself?
How can I be my stressed-free self?
When I have to worry 'bout doing something
That could get you in trouble…how can I?
My mom finds out and goes insane
Questioning the fact if I'm sane
How can you deal with this?
Why is she punishing you too?
She sends a letter expressing
How I feel….How she feels….oh no!
She drops it in your mailbox
Within a few hours we hear from you
The parents talk on the phone
I heard and know everything! (Oh!)
She doesn't think I grow up under rules
And I'm a bad influence…I'm sorry but
How can I be with a man?
Whose so controlled by his mother?
Who can't even defend himself?
How can I be my stressed-free self?
When I have worry 'bout doing something
That could get you in trouble…how can I?
I'm sorry I'm thinking this way
But I don't know what to say
But maybe they'll come a day
Where I can't take it anymore
Or you'll actually defend yourself
Until then, I'll be singing this tune
How can I be with the man I love?
Without causing him any pain?
How can I gain his mom trust?
Without losing my dignity
How can I? How can I? How can I?
Make this work?
