"Fate's in motion Lynnete." Grandmother told me once, when I described this feeling to her. Chills ran down my spine as I remember having this conversation only days before she had died. He laid next to me, blue eyes piercing mine as he gave me one of his little smiles. "I'm serious here." He said quietly, reaching his left had over and resting it gently on my cheek. "I care about you, so much. We should give it a try." I closed my eyes and felt his lips settle on mine for a brief moment, before he pulled back and whispered to me. "do you want to know a secret?" He murmured, in a sentimental tone that made me open my eyes and look at him. "I left Stel because I couldn't stop thinking about you."
Stella and Grey were an item for over two years, and everybody knew it. Stella was popular, a small, big eyed blonde, with doll like features. She was nearly perfect, maybe a little on the controlling and possessive side, but not so much that she was crazy. Everyone loved her, or at least pretended to.
And Grey is, well, Grey. He's tall and muscular, with a friendly but quiet disposition. He likes video games, and horror movies, and his eyes are so blue they call attention from every girl he's ever met, with striking black hair. Grey is my best friend, he always has been. But now, all of a sudden, Grey is confessing. To me.
He's lying in my bed, our legs tangled together, our faces inches apart. His right hand is holding mine, and his left is stroking my cheek. I close my eyes again and he makes a clicking noise of disapproval. "If you don't say anything, I'm going to take it as a yes." He said.
I coughed a tiny bit, and choked out "yes."
"What was that?" He said mischeviously, pulling me closer to him. I could feel his hot breath on my face, and when I opened my eyes, we were only millimeters apart.
"okay." I whispered softly, my lips tickling his nose. "let's try."
He closed the small space between us, and locked his hand in my hair, persuasive lips leading mine. After three years of friendship, I hadn't ever considered being with him. Of course it had crossed my mind, those times when he'd been there for me like no one else. But it hadn't ever manifested into real thoughts.
This time when I closed my eyes, and snuggled into his chest, he merely kissed me good night.
