And now, time for a science fiction novel. This is based on an idea that I have always had on how the future has in store for us in terms of technological advancements. I know that speculative fiction isn't as popular as it once was due to the fact that it feels like our technology have reached somewhat of a plateau.
Influenced by Michael Crichton's "Sphere" and Arthur C. Clarke's "Setinent", later Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey." I wanted to write a hard science fiction story, having studied some Computer Engineering and always fascinated by electronic gizmos I think it would be an interesting experiment for me to try a hard science fiction novel. Especially a speculative science fiction novel that is neither romantically utopic nor myopically dystopic.
Since I am still on the planning stages of this novel and this isn't for National Novel Writing Month so I have a lot more time to think about the story, the author's notes are going to come before the story.
Hard science fiction is defined as stories rooted in currently existing scientific facts. They are very factual and in order to abide to these definitions I decided to read up on some astronomical information. Especially the general theory of relativity, the accepted standard principals of the universe as well as Professor Stephen Hawking "A Brief history of Time". (Side note, my favorite astrophysicists are Dr. Carl Sagan, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Dr. Stephen Hawking.)
This story is to celebrate the achievements mankind have made into the deep unknowns of space and in hopes of future achievements to be made. Space is indeed the final frontier and it is our duty to sail these stars and to boldly go where no man have gone before. I, myself, have always dreamed of sailing into space because the only memories of childhood that I had was me dreaming of flying in the ocean of stars due to watching Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, or Robotech for the American counterpart, sorry Arthur C. Clarke though you did inspire a generation of astronauts too.
Once again, thank all of you in advance for your patience, comments, support and everything else. I hope you will enjoy the story as much as I will enjoy writing it. Hopefully be as inspired by it as I have been these past few nights as I start penning the ideas and outlines. Soon, chapter one will be released and I hope to see you then. Until then, keep dreaming, dear readers.
