The Perpetual Distance
On endless seas I have sailed,
'Cross endless deserts I have marched.
Tread the steps of those before,
That you may learn yet more,
Of that devourer devoid of maw.
That king that rules beyond the law.
That even the dead may once more pass,
As that King stills the breast that yet holds them dear.
That King wipes away the final tear.
That King strips away their worldly achievements,
That King exposes them to the greatest Fear.
What is this Perpetual Distance?
What is it but that cold touch,
That takes without return.
That man's crimes be answered for,
That strips down their towers and their walls,
That grinds their stones to sand,
And returns stout timbers unto the land.
To build again.
What is this Perpetual Distance?
What is Death but life again?
What is departure but delayed return?
What is a journey without an end?
What is that fleeting dream?
What is this Perpetual Distance?
This road of Time we walk?
