"We're VNHA. A secret society for more than 100 years."
The small, plain girl stood in the shadows as she addressed Evalene. "Once you get in, it's hard to get back out again. It's not safe. Especially not for…humans." She said the word carefully. Shariya, who was a rather average girl, with no particular talents or looks had a new air about her. In the gang, she had powers beyond her age or species.
"We're mainly made up of unidentified creatures of the night. We have special talents which can help against other gangs, some magical, some not."
"So what use will I be?"
"Well, eventually, we'll have to…" Her sentence didn't finish.
"Have to what? Kill me?" Evalene's voice was sharp and fierce. "Is this what it's all about, huh?"
"I never said that. But, I don't know what we'll have to do. I might have to ask the leaders of VNHA. I don't know if…they'll take kindly to this."
"Who are the leaders?" Evalene's forehead creased in confusion. "Surely they can't be that bad?"
Footsteps approached and she turned around unwillingly, only to look Sid in the eye as his cold words came.
"Shariya, what is she doing here?"
"Humans cannot know about us, she mustn't leave alive…" Ashton whispered.
"Jonah! Kellan! Over here! We have a victim here for you to feed on!"
"No!" Shariya screamed. "She's my friend, she deserves to know! She could be of use! NO!"
All that was left was darkness, and sharp piercing pains on both sides of her neck. She knew no more.
