The library is one of the few remaining places of tranquility in this hectic and noisy world we find ourselves in. So few sounds can be heard, if you are lucky you may

hear the soft crackle of a book worm slowly devouring its prize. Book worms have in recent years become endangered animals it would seem, haunting the hidden and

forgotten isles of libraries. They are typically tranquil creatures, only abandoning their prized books when forced, loathing those who would threaten the prizes they

guard. Most often they can be observed sitting in dull overstuffed chairs tucked away in the quietest areas of their domain. Sometimes when caught unawares they can

be seen simply lounging in the isles stretched out in comfort or leaning on the book shelves that shelter them. Many rarely venture out of their favored genre, preferring

to repeatedly wander the isles of their home domain until they know each story and its author by heart. Occasionally one will tread beyond its well established path,

whether it be by accident or an intended migration is rarely recognized, more often there is simply a sense of need for the uncharted and exotic. Before leaving they will

replace their well-worn volumes back to the places of high esteem in which they were found. At first they wander randomly, unsure of what they seek. However they will

often settle down to what will soon be old friends, as book worms are a very flexible species when need be. In recent years, it has come to light that there are sub-

species of book worms. While it is true that Biography, Fiction and Non- fiction have long been recognized, they are no longer so unceremoniously lumped together. With

more and more species recognized each year, I feel that the preservation of this ancient and now threatened specie's habitat has become even more important.
