The only way a demon can get to the human world is if a witch calls him or her. The only way they can be free in the human world is if they learn of their callers name. But, every once in a while, a crack appears between our worlds. Those cracks are called portals. And if you walk through one, you become a portal cutter... like me.

Prologue

Bored…Bored… Bored.

Jakl was standing at the front of the class going on about 'magic and its properties' while Mr Brakko was staring at him with googly eyes. I looked around the class and saw the rest of them were making the same face. I turned back to Jakl and turned my head to an angle… Well, I guess if you looked at him from a certain angle…

Nah, I was still bored and no amount of good looking demon from an awkward angle was going to cure that. So I sat at my desk with my head in my hands and waited for the tiresome class to finish.

It was then that I noticed the crack. It wasn't big enough for most to see (demons are cursed with incredibly bad eyesight) but it was definitely there, shining a blue hint of light outside in one of the alleys across the street. I watched as demon after demon walked past it and didn't even notice. Needless to say, my excitement was sparked.

I raised my hand, happy for a reason to leave the class even if I had to lie to get out of there.

"Yes, Ali?" Mr Brakko said, looking incredibly annoyed that I had interrupted his creepy ogling of Jakl.

"I need to use the bathroom."

He rolled his eyes at me and waved his hand towards the door. I nodded my thanks and rushed out of the room. By the time that I got outside, I saw that the crack had grown. I looked behind me at the class to see if they had spotted me but they were still all focused on Jakl (seriously, how long was this guy gonna take?) and walked towards the crack.

It was hovering above the ground and between the two brick walls of the alley. I slowly maneuvered myself between it and one of the walls and saw that looking at it from behind made it invisible. I stood in front of it again and slowly tried to work out what a portal was doing wide open in the middle of one of the most popular demon cities.

Then I thought, really, who cares?

I jumped into it and cried out as I was sucked through the portal. It felt like my limbs were being pulled apart and I had to fold my arms to stop them from becoming disjointed. I squinted my eyes in pain and…

It stopped.

I opened my eyes and saw myself standing in an alley in the human world. I looked back over my shoulder at the portal only to find it wasn't there.

"Shit!" I muttered under my breath and walked around to see if I had just been looking at it from behind. Nope. I was doomed. I had no way of getting back to the demon world. I was stuck here. With the witches.

I was about to start thinking about how my life was even more doomed when footsteps sounded down one end of the alley. I jumped behind a dumpster and waited for the man to walk past, tackling him to the ground when he did. He was about to cry out but I hit him around the head to stop him and he dropped down dead (yay for super demon power!).

I stared at him for a moment, wondering what I should do and trying to recall anything that Jakl had been talking about just a few minutes before. Something about human blood giving us power in the human world. I shrugged my shoulders. It worked for me.

As much as I hated vampire's, in that moment I kinda saw where they were coming from. If the only way you can live is drinking someone's blood, I guess it's alright.

After I 'did my business' I transformed into a human female's form and took the guys clothes (at school we had learnt that in the human world, clothes were considered a necessity that must be worn when in public).

I walked out into the street trying to get used to my new attire and searching through the pockets. The guy had some money. And I was starving.

This story bears no resemblence to the human world as we know it. It takes place in a city called Lethrium which is mostly occupied by witches and werewolves who are at war with vampires and shapeshifters. Not that that has anything to do with the story. Just thought I'd fill you in… Anyway, there is a plot to this and I do hope to actually get it finished (I suck with these types of things) :P MTN
