Ancient stones upon the ground
lay as crosses over the land -
hallowed realm is not near found
within the forest of the damned.

twilight sky fades to dark blue,
church's spire amidst stark skies.
stars above shine light anew
within my soul I hear her cries.

out from the trees her screams flee,
prepare my whole for feats of speed.
into the holt and through old scree,
I readied for courageous deeds.

jumping over bough and grave,
I followed echoes of her plight.
though she is the one to save,
it's challenging to ignore fright.

now within a clearing lit
by moon, perchance a sacred grove.
with white flame I sought to hit
the dark one whom against I strove.

clash of blades, though I stood stout
mayhap was not enough to win.
recollection did black out,
and when I woke there was no din.

grass of green, and tree ahead
adorned with halo, white, divine.
armour heavy as of lead,
I doff'd it all awaiting sign.

impact craters armour made -
I wept and laugh'd at yoke now light.
and throughout the holy glade
everything was engulfed in white.

I felt my body rise to sky,
as happiness overtook me.
but one last thought passed me by -
that which was now forlorn was she.
