Chapter 2
Harvey
I look around the room, everyone is silent and watching Mrs. Wilthers. She knows what happened, but so do I.
Well, I kind of know. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the drunk guy stumbling around outside. Only, I don't think he's drink. It's one thirty in the afternoon and a Tuesday. Most people don't get wasted at this time of day, especially on a weekday. I think whatever went wrong effected him, that's why Mrs.W closed the blinds, so no one could see.
What I really want to know is who called, but only Mrs. W knows. If I knew who called I'd be able to solve this puzzle better. I look at Mrs. Wilthers, she has her head in her hands. She's obviously not going to tell us, so it's up to me to figure it out.
I think back to the call, she seemed fine before she answered it, but afterwords she was distraught. I need to know who called, but I don't have anyone to ask.
Wait, didn't someone get up?
Andi. She got a tissue during the call, maybe she saw who it was. I have to find a way to ask her. I look towards the clock, two minutes till the bell. I'll ask her in the hallway, although I don't know where her locker is. Whatever, I'll follow her out.
When the bell rings I stand up, and start following Andi out the door. She waits until almost everyone is out before leaving the room. Her locker is right outside of the classroom. She starts to spin the dial.
"Hey", I say loud enough for her to hear. She turns around, startled that someone is speaking to her.
"Oh, hey." She says, staring at me with a questioning look.
"Do you know who called?" She stares at me strangely so I hurry on, "I just thought since you went to get a tissue, maybe you saw who called... I'm sorry." I start to walk away, but she stops me.
"I did see who called." She says, her voice a soft whisper in the hallway.
"Who?" I've turned around to face her.
"It was just Mr. H." She replies with a worried look, "But I don't know why talking to him made her react that way."
I think back to the outside.
"I think I do." I say to her. She gives my a confused look.
"What is it?"
I take a deep breath, "I saw someone outside before closed the blinds. They were stumbling around like they were drunk, but that doesn't make any-" Her gaze cuts my off. Her eyes are locked in the direction of the front entrance, and her eyes fill with fear. I follow her gaze.
"What the Hell?" There at the doors, is a group of men.
I notice spiderweb crack starting to form on the windows. They are trying to break in.
I hear screams and the intercom comes on warning us to get somewhere safe, but I can't move. I feel a tugging on sleeve, then the stinging of a slap.
"What was that-" I ask Andi, but she puts a finger to her lips and motions for me to follow. I obey and she leads me up the stairs into the girls' bathroom.
I start to argue, but she cuts me off again. She opens the middle stall, and crawls onto the seat, then she motions for me to come to where she is standing on the seat. Her blue eyes are filled with emotions, I want to argue, but I can't. I do as she said, and together we stand on the seat, making ourselves as small as possible. Listening to the screams of our friends.
